Rates shown are nightly rates before taxes and do not necessarily reflect all Springfield, MO discounts available. The chart reflects the cheapest Springfield hotel for each day and each star rating category.

John Polk Campbell and his family members were the first European-American settlers in what is now Springfield. They moved there from Tennessee in 1829, mainly because of the natural well that flowed into the stream, providing water for residents. Campbell received 50 acres of land from the legislature to create a county seat, which he used to lay out lots and streets. The population grew quickly during that century, although Springfield residents were divided during the Civil War. Both sides tried to gain control of Springfield, with the Battle of Wilson's Creek taking place nearby in 1861.

Today, Springfield's economy is based on tourism, education, healthcare, retail, and manufacturing. More than 3 million visitors come through the city annually, according to the Convention and Visitor's Bureau. Several major corporations have their headquarters in Springfield, including O'Reilly Auto Parts and Bass Pro Shops.

When should you visit Springfield, MO?

Springfield has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. During the summer months, the humidity levels can get very high, although the temperature rarely rises above 100 degrees. In 2007, the city earned a spot in a Forbes Magazine article that highlighted cities in America with the wildest weather. In this article, it was determined that Springfield has the most varied weather in the United States.

When visiting a city with such drastic shifts in climate, it's tough to know what to bring or when to go. Since you can't know exactly what the weather will be like during a trip, be sure to bring layers to stay warm in case it gets cold. The summer months tend to be warm and humid, causing residents to take vacations away from the area, so hotel prices tend to drop a bit during that time. If you can brave the cold, head to Springfield in the winter to enjoy lower hotel rates.
