Grant's Farm is an historic farm in St. Louis, Missouri, which was once owned by Ulysses S. Grant. The Farm is now owned by the Busch family, who used to own Anheuser-Busch brewing company. The Farm is free and open to the general public every summer, and it is a frequent tourist attraction in St. Louis. The farm is filled with many animals including buffalo, elephants, camels, donkeys, goats, peacocks, the iconic Budweiser Clydesdales and many more. Most of these animals can be seen by visitors on a tram tour of the Deer Park region of the park, while the Clydesdales are found in their nearby barn and pastures. The Farm also contains a cabin built by Grant, which is the only remaining structure hand-built by a United States President.
Also on the farm is the Busch family mansion and the house in which Ulysses S. Grant resided between the Mexican and Civil Wars. This was the land his wife, Julia Grant, gave to him. The farm sits across from the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, the former White Haven plantation owned by Julia Grant's family. Before entering the farm, visitors board a tram that takes them on a tour through the whole farm. On this tour they can see the historical cabin. During the Living History Weekends guest may go inside the cabin for the ultimate tour.
There's a special place inside the farm called Tier Garten. Tier Garten translates to "small animal garden" and once inside there are many thing s you can do and see. Grant's Farm wants guest to enjoy all animals up close in the garden. The Pygmy goats are the most famous animals inside the garden. The goats have been at the farm since 1954. Anytime you go through the garden you are going to have an encounter with the playful goats. Inside the garden you may feed the goats. You may buy a bottle of milk for one dollar and enter their yard to feed them. Kids of all ages will ove to do this. There are many animal encounters in the garden. You will see two african elephants in their home. There are also many small animals throughout the garden. These animals children can touch. There are also camels and llamas. You may purchase feed and have the animals eat from your hands. Along the way you may stop and get snacks for yourself.
Grant's Farm has a building called Bauernhof. This word means barn house or farmstead. The Bauernhof was the first building built on the property in 1911. In Germany, the building is known as the heart of the home. Around the building you can check out the Carriage Room to the right of the manificent clock tower. The Carriage Room was built specially for carriages. It is decorated in wood paneling and brick. The building is very massive and beautiful. There are also parties thrown in the room. All around the Bauernhof are apartments made for the care-takers and relatives. In the courtyard you will find the Brat House. This place offers all kinds of food. You may also stop by the Hospitality Bar. Here you may sample Anheuser-Busch products.

Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site is a 9.65-acre (39,100 m2) United States National Historic Site located 10 miles (16 km) southwest of Downtown St. Louis, Missouri within the municipality of Grantwood Village. The site, also known as White Haven, commemorates the life, military career, and Presidency of Ulysses S. Grant. Five historic structures are preserved at the site including the childhood home of Julia Dent Grant, wife of Ulysses S. Grant; the couple lived in the home from 1854 to 1859.
Ironically, White Haven was a plantation worked by slaves at the time Grant was married to his wife in 1848 and remained so until the end of the American Civil War.
The site jurisdiction is the Superintendent of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial.

In the city the population was spread out with 15.6% under the age of 18, 10.8% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 17.4% from 45 to 64, and 26.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 78.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 74.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $40,896, and the median income for a family was $57,007. Males had a median income of $40,951 versus $35,018 for females. The per capita income for the city was $27,479. About 3.1% of families and 8.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.8% of those under age 18 and 5.2% of those age 65 or over.
Shrewsbury, Missouri was officially platted in 1889. The land which became Shrewsbury originally belonged to Gregorie Sarpy and Charles Gratiot; by 1890, it was divided into farms and sold to families. The area now known as Shrewsbury was a 278-acre (1.13 km2) farm owned by General John Murdoch. The Murdoch farm was called Shrewsbury Park, named after a village in England.
In 1913, concerned resident Joseph Burge organized the Shrewsbury Improvement Association to improve Shrewsbury and develop its first sewer system. Shrewsbury was incorporated and became a village in 1913; shortly thereafter a sanitation system was established, reducing water-borne diseases prevalent at the time.
In 1938, the United States Government offered financial aid to the City of Shrewsbury and land was acquired for the construction of a new City Hall replacing the 1912 original. The new City Hall building was completed in October 1938. Shewsbury’s new fire engine house and state-of-the-art equipment were dedicated in 1947; it was during this period that the Shrewsbury Garden Club was formed to maintain the beautiful trees and flowers throughout the city. The early 50s were marked by the expansion of the public bus routes to connect Shrewsbury to St. Louis. The 60s and 70s were times of great community growth, noted by the construction of city parks, a municipal pool, and I-44.
The ‘80s and ‘90s saw increased development of new homes, condominiums, apartments, shopping areas, and a new and improved City Center, which opened May 8, 1993 to coincide with Shrewsbury’s 80th year of incorporation.
The city hired its first City Administrator in 1997. The Shrewsbury Board of Aldermen recently concluded its plans for the next MetroLink extension. They also approved plans for a new aquatic center and allocated $4 million for street improvements. Shrewsbury is home to the seminary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Louis, Kenrick-Glennon Seminary.

Southampton is a neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri. Located in the southern reaches of the city, its borders are Chippewa Street (Route 366) (formerly U.S. Route 66) on the north, Hampton Avenue on the west, Eichelberger Street on the south and South Kingshighway Boulevard on the east. It is a quiet neighborhood that was historically populated by Germanic immigrants. Typical architecture styles include "Hansel and Gretel", Gingerbread, Neo-Tudor, Brick, Arts & Crafts homes, and "Four Square". Most of the houses were built from the 1920s to the late 1930s and are primarily brick, although the earliest housing is dated from 1905-1915. A portion of the neighborhood was platted by an Anglophile who used English (and one Scottish) locations to name the streets and avenues (Bancroft, Devonshire, Lansdowne, Nottingham, Sutherland). The neighborhood also contains the only alley in the city divided by a median (running one block between Chippewa St. and Winona Avenue from Macklind to Brannon Avenues, the median being at one time part of the track for a privately owned rail line).
The neighborhood has been experiencing an influx of new people since the 1990s. The area has a low crime rate and has traditionally been home to a large number of firefighters and police officers, as a result of a St. Louis regulation requiring city employees to live within the city limits. The city in 2006 relaxed that requirement, but a large population still lives in the area. Many new owners are middle class and upper middle class as the property values saw large increases after 2003.
The Macklind Avenue Business District runs through the center of the neighborhood on Macklind Ave. from Devonshire Avenue to Eichelberger St. There are many new businesses and small established businesses.
Southampton is near to many St Louis attractions. It is nine miles from downtown and the St Louis Arch. Grant's Farm is minutes south by car, and Forest Park (home of the St Louis Zoo, Art Museum and Muny Theater) is just north on Hampton Ave. The Missouri Botanical Garden is minutes away by car as well.
The Southampton Neighborhood Association is an active part of the community. It sponsored the group which built and controls the Southwest City Dog Park in Wilmore Park.
Southampton is divided into a few Catholic parishes. Church of the Magdalen Catholic Church is located on S. Kingshighway Blvd. at Bancroft Avenue in the northeast, with St. Mary Magdelen School next to it at S. Kingshighway and Sutherland Avenue Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church is on Rhodes Avenue and its parish boundaries contain the southeast portion of the neighborhood. From Wherry and January Avenue westward the area is served by St Gabriel the Archangel Church on Nottingham Avenue in the nearby neighborhood of St. Louis Hills. Within the neighborhood there is also Hope Lutheran Church on Neosho Street, Southampton Presbyterian Church at Macklind and Nottingham Aves., and Kingshighway Baptist Church on S. Kingshighway Blvd. at Eichelberger St.
The public grade school that serves the area is Susan R. Buder.

Ellendale is a neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri.
Ellendale is bounded by Manchester on the North, I-44 on the south, Hampton on the East, and the City limits on the West. The neighborhood is surrounded by Lindenwood Park, Clifton Heights, The Hill, and the other "Dogtown" neighborhoods of Clayton/Tamm and Franz Park.
Originally, much of what is not Ellendale was land owned by James E. Sutton, who died in 1877. He bequeathed his land to his nine children. Kate Thomas, one of his daughters, started Ellendale. Although an accident destroyed much of the housing built before the World's Fair in 1904, some old homes built after the fair, mostly for the executives of Scullin Steel, are still standing. The area began to grow residentially in the last years of the century, helped along by the electric streetcars, which began running to the area in 1896.
The area was first opened to industrial activity in the 1850s because of the construction of the Pacific railroad and the mining of clay for fire brick. Coal was also discovered, but not enough to make it a long-lasting, profitable endeavor. Scullin Steel Co. stood as a landmark in the neighborhood until it ceased production in the 1970s. The former site is now St. Louis Marketplace, located on Manchester and Abbott. The railroads still run through the area.
Originally, the River Des Peres ran through the neighborhood, from its underground beginnings in Forest Park. It was converted to a drainage project, and now all that remains is the valley created by it. This valley forms the main topographical characteristic of the neighborhood.

Tower Grove South is a neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. Formerly known as Oak Hill, Tower Grove South is bounded by Arsenal St. on the north, Chippewa St. on the south, Kingshighway Blvd. on the west, and Grand Ave. on the east. The majority of the neighborhood was built following the extension of streetcar lines from downtown St. Louis.
