John and I began our wedding planning with Denise and Rafael in December 2012 for our wedding on April 13, 2013. The rumors every bride hears of how hard a wedding reception is to plan - quickly left my mind on our first meeting! Denise and Rafael are the perfect team! Wedding planning became fun and our meetings were full of laughs, brainstorming and more laughs! John and I had a budget and we were able to have everything we wanted at our reception and stay within the budget. We met, had phone calls and exchanged emails on a regular basis. We developed more than a friendship with them and couldn't have asked for more. Once our wedding week was here - Rafael introduced us to the staff of who would be working our wedding weekend and asked if there were any special requests for the arriving guests or any last minute requests from the bride and groom. Every time we would walk through the automatic doors, they would greet us by name and ask if we needed anything. We definitely felt like royalty on our wedding weekend! On the evening of Thursday, April 11 my father arrived at the Marriott to rest from his drive in from Arkansas. Once he got out of the car, right in the front of the Marriott, he collapsed from a heart attack. An employee of the Marriott rushed out and performed CPR until the paramedics arrived. My mother and I arrived shortly after the paramedics. We were of course met by the emergency staff but we were also met by the Marriott Staff. They responded professionally but also compassionately and never left our side that evening. They were able to shuffle arriving guests around so there was not an "audience" watching them work on my father. The Marriott took charge - they moved our cars and took in our luggage while we rushed off to the hospital. Unfortunately, my father passed away on April 11th from the heart attack. My family and I decided to continue with the wedding on Saturday. Friday morning when I arrived at the Marriott I was met in the lobby by Denise. She was waiting for me, arms open wide and with kind and loving words. Rafael quickly joined us in the lobby. For a situation where no words can be found I was comforted by knowing they were there to help pull this emotional weekend off. The entire staff was so kind and caring. They knew all the right words to say during such a happy yet painful weekend. Denise was by my side throughout the morning while I got ready - always asking if I needed anything. She also made sure I was eating and drinking plenty of water. Once the evening of the reception rolled around - the thought of something going wrong didn't even cross my mind - I knew Rafael and Denise had everything under control! I was right...the food, drinks, decorations and accommodations were all perfect!!! People are still talking about the reception! On Sunday, the Marriott offered another area for us to have a memorial for my dad. There was such a large turnout -they quickly brought more chairs and opened another partition -didn't even miss a beat! After the memorial we all had breakfast in the Epicure room. The restaurant staff handled 50+ people all at once with a breeze. They never looked stressed or flustered. They had a smile on their face the entire time! The weekend of April 13th was the best day of my life since I got to marry my best friend but was also the worst day of my life when my dad died. My entire family extends the largest THANK YOU to the entire Marriott staff - the people behind the scene, front desk employees, bartenders, event staff -but most of all - Denise and Rafael! We recently celebrated the wedding of our niece. She was so pleased as she worked with the event coordinator over the last few months and the whole week end they supplied her every need. Unfortunately the weekend started out tragically as her Father suffered a massive heart attack and died right in the front drive,the staff the bartender and all involved were professional and compassionate as we continued on with the wedding inspite of the horrible tragedy. They even supplied a room for us on Sunday to have a memorial. Thanks to all involved who made it a special weekend in the midst of such horrible loss and heartache. « less
