Stayed for a night at the Best Western Sunset Suites using a free promotion coupon we earned from Best Western (more on that later). Our experience was mostly good, as detailed below.
Pros: interesting renovated historical lobby; large room with sitting area; comfortable bed. The shower nearly blew me into tomorrow, which may not be a “pro” for everyone. Breakfast area was large and airy with lots of seating and a great selection of foods. Coffee was good and they even offered “normal” and “strong” in addition to decaf and teas. You could park your car (free, which is not always the case in SAT) and walk to the downtown sights. Computer in business area worked fast – a first ever for us in a hotel. Staff was nice and helpful.
Cons: our room was on street level and had a terrible amount of traffic noise. This may have been because our stay was free, which I understand, but we had requested a quiet location through the online reservation system when we booked the hotel. The rooms away from ground level are probably fine. While the bed was comfortable, the pillows were not since they were too small with no mix of soft to firm. Also, while the hotel is located in St. Paul Square, next to nothing was open midweek, so it looked like a ghost town. You can walk to things in San Antonio, but know this destination will add a half-mile at or more, which meant we were less likely to pop out to see a single sight than when we have stayed in the midst of downtown/Riverwalk.
It may be helpful to know that before we stayed, we had been concerned about whether the area under the interstate would be safe to walk through, but it was fine and well lit. We walked back at 7P, so we don’t know if it is okay later at night, but saw nothing that was cause for concern.
If you approach the hotel coming north on I-37, when you get to the end of the exit ramp, the hotel is right in front of you across the street. Drive onto the street directly to the left of the hotel (Chestnut Street) and turn into the driveway on your right.
We try to get to San Antonio every year or so and will probably go back to staying on or very near the center of Riverwalk, but if you decide the Best Western Sunset Suites is the place for you, call to ask for a quiet room, and you will probably enjoy a great stay. « less

Beautiful room.I love Best Western, and I'm trying to think of a negative about this one!. K it lost a point for the silly baby pillows in the bed. 4 tiny wee pillows in a king bed!!! Other than that, this is the perfect place to stay to visit San Antonio. « less

Downside, the bed was like sleeping on a rock. Not sure if it was just our room, but if you like softer beds then you might want to take that into consideration. « less

Overall very good stay. I liked the location, walking distance to alamo and riverwalk.I loved the building and architecture and I got a super great rate. Breakfast was also really good. Overall great experience. No swimming pool. Parking is also free so that is a plus. Only downside is parking runs out and you have to park the vehicle far from hotel, about 1 or 2 blocks. I dont mind the walk at all, just the location is kind of dim and unsecure (open back entrance as well as front), so I felt somewhate unsecure leaving my vehicle or car belongings there unprotective. Otherwise if I would have gotten one of the on site parking spots, I could not have felt better about this stay.! « less
