Green Sustainability

Grand Hyatt San Francisco “Going Green” Grand Hyatt San Francisco is a leader in the community and considers it a high priority to continually strive to improve “green practices and initiatives”. In 2011 we became Energy Star certified. In an ongoing effort to reduce energy usage, Grand Hyatt San Francisco is working toward becoming LEED Certified in the near future. Hotel guests automatically participate in the “guest room Green Program”, which program allows guests to choose to reuse their linens and towels. Additionally, hotel staff is responsible for recycling of everything from paper and plastics to cardboards, cans, bottles and batteries. We recycle cardboard, food waste and used oil from the kitchen. Other initiatives include, but are not limited to: Food Composting Programs have been implemented in all kitchens throughout the Hotel Approximately 95% of all hotel lights are energy efficient, incandescent lights have been replaced with compact fluorescent lights, saving electricity and cutting greenhouse emissions Occupancy sensor fixtures have been installed in all hotel back of house stairwells and guestrooms Variable frequency drives on high horsepower motors Use of e mail is encouraged where ever possible to limit paper distribution Guest room showerheads are 1.75 gallon per minute maximum discharge Guest room faucet aerators are 1.5 gallon per minute maximum discharge All guest rooms feature energy saving thermostats Our building Energy Management System controls our HVAC, exterior lights, and water fountain by automatically turning them off and on All paints and solvents are recycled through Safety Clean, and batteries, ballasts, and fluorescent bulbs are recycled through Clean Earth and Recology E-Components monitors and reports all energy usage to alert us of any inefficiencies Recaptured refrigerants are recycled with ARS Environmentally safe cleaners are used for all mechanical equipment Environmentally safe green cleaning products are used to clean guest rooms Our kitchen grease is recycled by KB Grease Trap Services to make bio-diesel Annual infrared scan on electrical infrastructure is performed to measure energy conservation efficiency Donation of excess supplies, furnishings, equipment, and food Used computer equipment is recycled by a local company, and used toner cartridges are returned either to the vendor or the manufacturer for recycling Go Green Meetings and Events All meeting rooms come equipped with water stations, eliminating the use of bottled water and paper cups Occupancy sensor fixtures have been installed in the Hotel meeting and function space Our meeting rooms have single stream recycling Whenever possible, we reduce water by using china and service ware, cups, glasses, and utensils in all of our outlets and the back of the house Our electronic meeting message boards reduce paper and material usage Electronic marketing and sales efforts are utilized whenever possible in an effort to reduce paper usage Utilize online event menu proposals All box lunch containers and utensils are compostable Electronic dimmer controls have been installed throughout our meeting room space The Hotel has Linen less buffet tables Paperless billing Whether its offering food that’s been grown in a manner sensitive to its natural habitat for preserving wildlife and other plants, organically grown and raised, or local and freshly harvested, or purchasing in “bulk" to limit container disposal, Grand Hyatt San Francisco is getting “greener"
