The hotel is located on the Purple line of the Metro with quick service to Downtown (Staples Center and Los Angeles Convention Center) and Universal Studios/Hollywood. I stayed with this hotel for the first time recently and it is fantastic now one of my absolute favorites. The hotel has a very particular style, very cutting edge, which I have not seen replicated anywhere. The rooms are made primarily of concrete, with very modern interiors that play on minimalism and contrast. The greatest feature of each room is the outward facing wall, which is actually just one giant floor to ceiling window looking out over different parts of Hollywood. While sparse, the decor of the rooms is highly thought out and artistic, with many signature pieces. It somehow manages to be cozy even though the primary visible material is concrete. The result is that each room feels much more like the studio apartment of an artist than a hotel room. Be warned however, these rooms are small. They are perfectly comfortable for one person or a couple, but any more than that and the room becomes too crowded. The rest of the hotel is stylish, trendy, asian inspired and arty. At night (at least during the weekend that I stayed), the geometric couches are pulled out of the lobby to make a dance floor and a DJ booth is set up, transforming the space into a legitimate club like atmosphere. This does get loud, although it did not disturb me up in my room (it was just a surprise coming out of the elevator)! Lastly, I was a big fan of the Korean hot pot restaurant that is attached to the lobby, which is a fun and quirky place to have dinner (styled like the rest of the hotel) that was surprisingly inexpensive. As a generality, the appeal of this hotel is very straight forward, specific and uncommon. It is a great place to stay for nightlife, intrigue, a romantic getaway, or a party of any variety. People from out of town will love it for its views of Hollywood, its utter uniqueness and the occasional celebrity sighting. It is not the first place I would reach for for small children, people travelling purely on business, or the uptight in laws (unless you want to try to get them to let loose a little).

The Line Los Angeles, a new and upcoming 4 star hotel property in the Mid-Wilshire Area (Koreatown), West of Downtown LA. Opening soon in a limited capacity, and will be completely finished by the end of 2014. Once completed this property will represent the epitome of what it means to be LA by local native standards. This is an avant-garde, boutique, trendsetting, and upscale chic hotel property perfect for the 25 to 45 age group looking to breakout of the cookie cutter hotel mold of corporate hotels and leisure friendly properties. This is not the property to take your parents or young children too, this hotel property is looking to develop its own niche. It is not meant to be a property for everyone, but instead a property targeted to a specific sector of the general population of travelers. The property is scheduled to have a functioning greenhouse/ restaurant, a nightclub/ pub with 2 full service bars with private Karaoke rooms, 12,000 square feet of soft meeting space, a couple of different restaurants, 24/7 café & newsstand and much more. It is a refreshing change of pace and offers promising things in the future.

WE COMPLETED an $80 million RENOVATION IN JANUARY 2014 and re-opened and rebranded as The LINE. Named by Conde Nast Traveler in the 2014 Hot List of Best New Hotels in the World.The LINE is a new hotel collaboration by the Sydell Group (The NoMad Hotel New York, Freehand Miami) that draws inspiration from the distinct LA culture of its surrounding neighborhood. Venice-based designer Sean Knibb has created modern interiors with subtle local influences. Chef Roy Choi helms the hotel’s food and beverage offerings. Koreatown natives The Houston Brothers — creators of Pour Vous and La Descarga — will host a lounge in the hotel, while art and design collective Poketo offers a lifestyle boutique shop.
