Downtown Austin is a very popular location. Everyone wants to be downtown with walking distance to Sixth Street. Due to the popularity they should be ready to pay the price. However, there are several great properties about a mile away that can cut your rate in half. A group can share a taxi and be there in no time at all. It also is an extremely popular destination for weddings. However, they have difficulty finding rooms. I highly recommend finding out what is scheduled in the city before you commit the date to a venue. There are many events that saturate the market like South By Southwest, Formula One, Austin City Limits and X Games to name a few.
