Viking Hall is the newest of the residence halls at Salem State. Viking houses 350 guests in double and single rooms set up in suites. Each suite consists of guest bedrooms, an entryway space, and a bathroom. There are four floors, each with common lounge areas for guests to relax and meet. Viking Hall also houses a Starbucks and meeting spaces on the ground floor, with a separate entrance from the residence hall.Viking offers small lounges (both television and study lounges) throughout the building and a large community space, including mailboxes, vending machines, a laundry area, and a television and lounge area. Also on the ground floor is a cafe, meeting room, and staff offices. Viking Hall is fully air-conditioned and LEED Gold certified.Atlantic Hall is one of Salem State's most vibrant living areas, overlooking the Marsh Quad, Salem Bike Path, and the salt marsh. Located on Central Campus, this modern residence hall houses 450 guests within 77 six-person apartments. Atlantic offers small lounges throughout the building, and a spacious community space on the ground floor complete with a fitness room, laundry area, pool tables, in addition to a television and lounge area. Each fully-furnished apartment includes two double rooms, two single rooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and is air-conditioned. Kitchens come complete with a full-size stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher.Just steps from Atlantic, Guests can find the Marsh dining hall, Starbucks, the Bertolon School of Business, the bookstore, the baseball field, and tennis courts. .
Green sustainability
Salem State received a Leading By Example Award for leadership in pursuing positive clean energy and environmental solutions across campus. We compost food waste at our two dining halls and three additional locations on campus. Our efforts were honored with an EPA Food Recovery Challenge Award in 2015 and Certificates of Achievement in 2016 and 2017.Salem State moved to single-stream recycling in 2017. We now recycle metal, plastic and glass as well as paper and cardboard. The addition of water consumption programs has resulted in a 22% reduction in campus water use between 2014 and 2017. 21 bottle refill stations on campus have helped eliminate over 400,000 single-use water bottle.
