The Belleville center is about 3 miles southeast of Willow Run Airport and 4 miles west of Romulus.

Belleville, Michigan, is a small Hamlet located just 29 miles outside of Detroit and 15 miles outside of Ann Arbor. Its location on the Huron River allowed it to be a natural hub for thriving business after it was formally established as a village in 1905. In 1926, the Detroit Edison Company built the French Landing Dam east of Belleville on the Huron River to generate more electricity for the area. The dam resulted in a lovely lake named Edison Lake, or Belleville Lake. More from this guide...

Music is big in Belleville. The Hamlet is the birthplace of techno music as the home of Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, and Derrick May, often referred to as the Belleville Three. The musicians were instrumental in the creation of the genre that is loved by millions of music fans. The Belleville High School has an impressive band with more than 300 students. So, when the school is playing at sporting events the entire massive marching band piles onto the field to encourage their athletic counterparts. Both the band and the sports players from Belleville High are award winning.

As of 2016, the population in the area was nearly 4,000 and the median age in the town was 40 years old, which is higher than the national average of 35 years old. Given the older residents and small population, Belleville is a quiet destination. The area is filled with the beautiful stately homes of wealthy Michigan families in thoughtfully planned gated communities. Charles Lindbergh and Henry Ford are among the wealthy residents who owned summer cottages in Belleville.

When to Visit Belleville, MI

The best time to visit Belleville, Michigan, is from mid-May to early October when temperatures range from the high 40s to mid-80s. Rainfall is typical for this time of the year, and averages around 25 inches from May to October. You have more time to visit Michigan during the optimal weather because the temperatures are never too hot. Plus, there is less humidity in the area, so the winter lows feel warmer and the summer highs feel cooler than other parts of the country.

During the winter Belleville is less inviting. Snowfall for the area is higher than average for the United States, which is 26 inches. The winter weather conditions make for poor road conditions, so winter is especially bad for out-of-town guests with little to no snow driving experience. During this time of the year the temperature is usually frigidly cold in the evenings and throughout the night.
