Harrisonburg is a city in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. It was named after Thomas Harrison, a son of English settlers who settled there in 1737. In 1779, Harrison deeded 2.5 acres of his land to the public for the construction of a courthouse. In 1780, he deeded another 50 acres to the public.
