The suburb of Kendall was purchased from the State of Florida by the Florida Land and Mortgage Company in 1883. Named after the company's director, John Broughton Kendall, land development in the Kendall area was slow, leaving some of the land undeveloped until more recent years. Notably, the Kendall area was catastrophically damaged in 1992 by Hurricane Andrew, with some homes and businesses facing total destruction.
Today, most of Kendall has been rebuilt, with beautiful shopping areas, restaurants, and a large mall. No matter why you're planning a trip to Kendall, finding the right hotel for your stay, based on budget and needs, is an important first step.
When to Visit Kendall, FL
The best time to visit Kendall, Florida, is between March and early June. This is when the weather is warm, but not hot, the chance of rainfall relatively low, and the prices of hotels are lower because it's not in peak season. Because Florida can get hot, an upward of 99 degrees or so, a difference in a few degrees can have a substantial impact on your trip.
In the summer months, many people take their vacations to the beaches in Miami, which will crowd the beaches and raise the hotel rates, even in nearby Kendall. Even with that, there are reasons to visit Kendall in the summer. Many of the local attractions have special events and exhibits throughout the summer, including festivals and concerts. This may be enough of a draw to make it worth the extra cost.
In the winter months, you can expect to find many "snow birds" in the area that travel to Florida to escape the snow and enjoy the warmer winter weather. While this will make the beaches, shopping areas, and restaurants busier, it has less of an impact on hotel prices, since many of these travelers opt for long term options, such as seasonal rentals.
