The Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, which began in 1972, is a six-week long summer arts festival that presents nearly 80 performances between mid-July and mid-August. Well-known and up and coming chamber musicians present concerts in three iconic Santa Fe venues during the run of the festival. The festival has contributed to the contemporary chamber music repertoire by commissioning more than 50 works from well-known composers such as Aaron Copland, Chick Corea, John Harbison, Mark O'Connor, and Ned Rorem.
