As part of the Chattanooga, TN-GA Metropolitan Statistical Area, Ringgold serves as the perfect home base for exploring Chattanooga and nearby attractions. The city was founded in 1846 and was named after Samuel Ringgold, a Mexican-American War hero of the Battle of Palo Alto. Ringgold is home to a historic train depot that still has bullet marks from the Civil War and was the stopping point of The General locomotive during 1862's Great Locomotive Chase. The community experienced the Battle of Ringgold Gap in 1863 when the Confederate States Army used the Ringgold Gap mountain pass to stall Union troops.

Ringgold has also been the site of more recent events that have given it a place in the history books. A heavy fog descended on Ringgold in 2002, causing one of the worst traffic pileups in history. The weather phenomenon caused 125 vehicles to crash on Interstate 75. In 2001, a tornado touched down in Ringgold, killing 20 people across Catoosa County.

Despite its past misfortunes, Ringgold is a lovely community with all the charms of a Southern metro. It provides easy access to Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, Lookout Mountain, and Ruby Falls. Whatever your reasons for visiting Ringgold, it's important to find the right hotel that enables you to experience everything this beautiful region has to offer.
