Score of City:
5.0 / 5

Quiet little Georgia town nestled near the Appalachians. This town is centrally located between Chattanooga and Atlanta. There are beautiful new hotels that have been built there, so it would be a great place to host a retreat. The downtown area has shops and restaurants. Friendly people and little traffic, and most things close early by big city standards.

Dalton also serves as the Carpet Capital of the World thanks to the town's abundant carpet showrooms. While you might not be in the market for new rugs while you're traveling, stop in some of these shops to admire the designs. You might even find something that you want to order once you get home.

To get the most out of your Dalton vacation, find a hotel and a group of activities that will make your trip special.

Best Time to Visit Dalton, Georgia

Georgia experiences four distinct seasons, so selecting your travel dates will depend on your comfort and budget. Most people visit this corner of the world during the summer because of the many outdoor events and festivals. If you want to rub shoulders with locals and explore cultural events, consider visiting between May and July. Just prepare for extreme heat, and pack plenty of sunscreen.

Autumn brings cooler temperatures and splendid fall colors. Hotel rates will lower somewhat from the summer rates, so you'll snag a better deal, and summer's oppressive heat has since passed. Springtime offers similar benefits, but allergy sufferers should beware the pollen and other allergens in the air. Dalton also gets more rainfall between March and May.

You'll get the best hotel rates during the winter months. Snow and ice can become a problem for travelers who aren't used to colder temperatures, and you probably won't want to spend much time outside. However, if you visit during the holidays, you'll see beautiful Christmas decorations throughout the picturesque downtown district as well as in the suburban neighborhoods.

Best Luxury Hotel Options in Dalton, Georgia

If you don't want to settle for anything less than the best, choose from one of Dalton's luxury hotels. They offer upgraded amenities and unparalleled comfort so you can feel pampered throughout your entire stay. Consider, for instance, the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Dalton. It's a contemporary choice that brings premium linens, furnishings, and decor to the table. You can start every morning with a free, hot buffet breakfast that includes southern delicacies such as grits, waffles, pancakes, and freshly squeezed orange juice.

You'll enjoy the on-site business center, fitness room, and swimming pool, all of which are available year-round. The concierge desk offers a grocery shopping service, and you'll have access to an ATM as well as a daily newspaper. Free high-speed wireless internet access is available throughout the venue. Rooms feature turn-down service, large flat-screen televisions, in-room refrigerators and microwaves, and spacious work desks. If you're traveling with a group, consider requesting connected rooms.

You'll find another luxurious choice at the Hampton Inn Dalton. You get a free Hampton's hot breakfast every morning so you have plenty of energy for your daily activities. Every room comes with a clean and fresh Hampton bed, which will lull you to sleep after a long day of sightseeing, and you'll have access to premium cable channels on your flat-screen television. Rooms and common areas boast free high-speed internet, as well, so you don't have to disconnect — unless that's your goal.

Outside your room, you'll find several ways to fit a workout into your vacation. This hotel features a swimming pool, aerobic ball, and basketball court. In the fitness room, you can work up on a sweat on one of the elliptical machines or treadmills. Alternatively, test your strength with the free weights.

Best Affordable Hotel Options in Dalton, Georgia

Who says you have to blow your savings on a vacation in Dalton? If you're hoping to enjoy the town on the cheap, consider staying at the local Motel 6. While it's neither flashy nor glitzy, it offers clean, comfortable rooms and an excellent location on Chattanooga Road. It's also right next to the Chattahoochee National Forest, so if you're hoping to fit plenty of hiking into your visit, this is the ideal hotel from which to start.

Rooms at the Motel 6 feature simple, understated furnishings and decor. Most rooms celebrate bright, citrus colors, which can help you wake up in the morning so you don't waste a minute of your vacation time in bed. Flat-screen televisions, work stations, and large bathroom vanities make your stay more comfortable. You can choose from rooms with one queen bed or two queen beds, and if you get cabin fever, take advantage of the nearby wilderness. Plus, you can get a free cup of coffee all day long.

The Econo Lodge Dalton offers another budget-friendly choice for pleasure and business travelers. The rooms here are a little more traditional than those at the Motel 6. Patterned upholstery and bedding pair well with white walls and ornate headboards and other furnishings. Take a dip in the seasonal outdoor pool, and get your caffeine fix with the in-room coffee maker.

Other amenities at this hotel include free wireless internet and an outdoor picnic area. There's a coin-operated laundry facility if you feel like refreshing your wardrobe, and you can fuel up each morning with a simple but free continental breakfast. If you don't want to leave Fluffy or Fido at home, bring them along for a nominal extra fee.

Outdoor Activities in Dalton, Georgia

If your goal is to get as much sunshine and exercise as possible while you're in Dalton, plan to spend most of your time in the area's public green spaces. Lakeshore Park, for instance, boasts playing fields, trails, an enclosed dog park, and a playground for kids. It gets hot in the summer because of the lack of shade, though, so consider bringing an umbrella if you're visiting from June through August.

Brookwood Park is a little more rustic. You can follow the trail that meanders along the creek bed and perhaps find an arrowhead or two. You'll likely spot local fauna here, as well, because it's not as heavily populated. When it's hot outside, you'll appreciate the opportunity to dip your toes into the cool creek water.

For after-dark fun, Dalton hosts several ghost tours that promise encounters with things that go bump in the night. While these tours probably aren't suitable for kids, they're great for adults who enjoy a good scare. Plus, they'll get you out of your hotel after the sun goes down.

Dalton is one of the most picturesque towns in the state, offering plenty of amenities without the hustle and bustle of big-city life. If you're planning your next vacation, start cooking up your itinerary so you can make the most of your Dalton visit.
