Batavia was first settled by Europeans in 1833, and there was so much growth in the area at the time that the original settler called it Big Woods. The name Batavia came a few years later as ordered by local judge Isaac Wilson, who happened to own the majority of the town. The area didn't gain much historical significance until the late 19th century when its manufacturing industry boomed as a result of westward expansion. Windmills that operated water pumps were the city's bread and butter, as most American farms anywhere in the country used windmills built in Batavia.
The Windmill City has come a long way since its days as a simple manufacturing town, and it's a perfect destination for travelers looking for adventure. You just need to find a hotel that can offer you the kind of experience you're looking for. Fortunately, Batavia has a wide variety of options available, from affordable motels to luxury resorts and everything in between. Find the right hotel for your trip, and be sure you make your Batavia adventure absolutely unforgettable.
What season should you visit Batavia, IL?
Seasonal differences in Batavia are significant, so make sure you plan your trip accordingly. If you're a warm-weather traveler, it's easy to fall in love with Batavian summers. Highs from June to August reach the 80s, and mean temperatures rest comfortably in the 70s. The winter months are a bit different, however, with freezing temperatures virtually constant in December, January, and February. Even March and November can have freezing temperatures at their low points, but the median temperatures during those months stay around the high 30s.
Staying dry in Batavia is fairly easy, as the rain is never that bad at any point throughout the year. The rainiest time is in June, which features a 30% daily chance of rain along with 4.4 inches of total precipitation. January and February, on the other hand, don't get much precipitation at all, with just a 10% daily chance of rain with a bit of snow. If you'd rather not deal with the snow, September and October have relatively mild rain with a daily chance of 18% and 21%, respectively.
The travel season in Batavia is fairly consistent. The summer months are busy, and the winter months are slow. February is the only major exception since it's busier with travelers than all of spring and fall. If you're looking to save on your trip, November and January will have the best deals on flights and hotels. For those traveling during the summer or February, make sure you book in advance, as flights and accommodations can get crowded and pricey quicker than you might think.
