With nearly 90,000 residents, Beaverton is Oregon's sixth-largest city, yet it started from humble beginnings almost 170 years ago. Situated in the Tualatin River Valley, Beaverton became an important city in early grain production and logging. However, the early 20th century brought rapid growth thanks to a Ford dealership, library, and new businesses. Today, the city is the famous home of Nike, the world's largest sports apparel company.
While it's not as popular as Portland as far as a tourist destination, Beaverton isn't just some next-door neighbor. It's a vibrant city with plenty to do and see. Whatever your reason for traveling to Beaverton, you need to find the perfect hotel to enjoy everything the city and the surrounding area has to offer.
When to Visit Beaverton, OR
The optimal time to visit Beaverton is between June and September. During the summer, Beaverton has clear skies, temperatures in the 80s, and fewer than five inches of rainfall, despite its location in the Pacific Northwest. Because of its latitude, it also boasts up to 16 hours of sunlight, making it the perfect time to explore the trails of the Tualatin River Valley, located just west of the city. It's also prime time to check out the Beaverton Farmer's Market, which offers live music every Saturday from May through September. Rates go up during summer, making early bookings essential.
The second-best time to check out Beaverton is during winter. Winters here have a false notoriety for being wet, but precipitation is actually less than that of Miami or Baltimore. Snowfall is a rare occurrence, but if you're into winter sports, don't fret. While Beaverton doesn't have the elevation or snowfall to provide prime skiing, there are a half-dozen ski resorts all within an hour and a half. If you stay in Beaverton, you won't have to pay resort prices, and demand is typically at a lull.
During the spring, the clouds open up and pour rain onto Beaverton, and the ebb and flow of temperatures necessitate that you dress in layers. Still, that doesn't mean there isn't anything to do. You just may have to do it inside. However, this can work to your advantage. Dodging a shower or two throughout the day is part of the fun, but demand for hotels is low, allowing you to pick the hotel you want at lesser rates.
If leaf peeping and the brisk, autumn air is something you value, head to Beaverton between late September and November. Temperatures fall, but because of the climate, it rarely gets below freezing. This allows you to stroll through downtown and other walkable destinations throughout the city. Demand falls sharply, so keep your eyes open for some deals on hotels.
