Canton's climate is typical of most Midwestern cities in that its summers are very warm and humid, while winters are cold. Snowfall in Canton is lighter than in the northern snow belt, but don't be surprised if you experience some snow when visiting in the winter months. Average highs from December to February hover in the 30s, so pack accordingly.
If you're hoping to avoid the humid summer months, which tend to come with the biggest tourist crowds, plan your trip in the spring or fall shoulder seasons. Temperatures in April and May, and again in September and October, are the most pleasant, with highs averaging from 60 to 73 degrees. This is also the time when you'll experience the best hotel rates.
If you know where to look, you can save even more money on your trip to Canton by taking advantage of travel discounts. AAA members, AARP members, seniors, government employees, and military families can often find discounts of up to 20 percent on their favorite hotel chains.
Hilton Garden Inn Akron-Canton Airport, for instance, allows AAA and AARP members to save five to ten percent on the best available rates. In addition, this property also offers special discount packages that cater to your travel style. Booking the romance package will entitle you to some sparkling wine or cider and breakfast for two, while early booking deals can knock off 15 percent from your room rates. Honors members can also save up to 25 percent during Hilton's special sales, so keep an eye on your hotel rewards offers and plan your trip around incentives.
If you're in town for football, many area hotels offer packages built around your favorite sport. Comfort Inn – Hall of Fame offers several themed packages that include tickets to nearby attractions, including the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Also, booking your room a week in advance can shave off an extra 15 percent.
