The area where Elmsford is found was first known as "Storm's Bridge" and then "Hall's Corners," but was officially named "Elmsford" in 1870 after a giant elm tree landmark. In its early years, Elmsford was mostly farmland. It was incorporated as a village in 1910 after railroad construction brought more importance to the area.
