Sylvania was first surveyed in 1836, but a post office didn't follow until 1859. The city was officially incorporated in 1867. Situated 10 miles west and northwest of Toledo, Sylvania is an ideal home for those who commute to the larger city for work or entertainment. While its proximity to Toledo is an added bonus, Sylvania is considered one of Ohio's best hometowns on its own merits. The thriving community features celebrated restaurants, an outdoor dance floor, diverse businesses, and a historic downtown. Recreational opportunities range from walking trails to high-energy sports facilities.
Whatever your reasons for visiting Sylvania, you want to find the right hotel that allows you to enjoy everything this beautiful community has to offer.
When should you plan your trip to Sylvania, OH?
The best time to visit Sylvania is in the summer. Since Ohio temperatures can change dramatically, summer provides the best opportunity for pleasant weather despite the humidity. Average highs from June through August hover in the low 80s, but mid-July can get hotter. If you want to visit during the summer, but you prefer slightly cooler temperatures, plan a June getaway.
Keep in mind, however, that summer is peak tourist season in the Toledo Metropolitan Area. Crowds tend to spill over in suburban areas such as Sylvania, so plan your trip well in advance to grab the best room and potentially save some cash.
If your primary concern is saving money during your trip to Sylvania, visit during the spring or fall. You'll experience fewer crowds in Toledo and can visit many attractions and restaurants without waiting in line. Best of all, hotels and airlines offer money-saving deals during the shoulder seasons, which can help you stay under budget.
Winters in Sylvania are bitterly cold. Average highs from December through February stay in the 30s, which can pose some challenges when you're trying to enjoy a wintertime getaway. Sylvania also experiences frequent rain or snow, so you'll want to book refundable hotels and airfare if you're traveling during the winter. The tradeoff is that Toledo attractions at this time of year can give you many options.
