Originally founded as a way station called Lane's Crossing, what would become Victorville served as a much-needed stop for people journeying across the desert to San Bernardino. By 1885, a telegraph station dubbed "Victor" was established, named for the railroad's general manager, Jacob Nash Victor. As the village sprang up around the railroad facility, it became known by the same name. In 1901, the postmistress suggested the town be named Victorville to halt postal confusion with Victor, Colorado, and the town's new name was born.
Modern Victorville has been used as a location for several films. It is also home to numerous museums, entertainment venues, recreational activities, and golf courses, making it a great spot for a weekend getaway. Whatever your reason for visiting Victorville, it is essential to find the right hotel that allows you to explore everything the Greater Los Angeles Area has to offer.
Best Time to Visit Victorville, CA
Victorville has a high-desert climate, which gives visitors a taste of four distinct seasons. The weather is usually more pleasant during the spring and fall, and hotel rates tend to stay low throughout the shoulder seasons. If you're planning a trip and want to take advantage of the area's outdoor recreational opportunities, you can't go wrong with a spring or autumn visit.
Summers in Victorville can reach 110 degrees, but since the desert receives little rain, you won't be bombarded by humidity. Thanks to summer events such as the Route 66 Bluegrass Festival, peak tourist season is worth the visit if you don't mind paying a little extra for your hotel room.
The winter months in Victorville are generally pleasant, with highs hovering around 60 degrees. Nighttime lows, however, can drop below freezing, so come prepared with plenty of layers and winter gear.
