Graph: Upcoming 20 Days of Calimesa Hotel Rates

Rates shown are nightly rates before taxes and do not necessarily reflect all Calimesa, CA discounts available. The chart reflects the cheapest Calimesa hotel for each day and each star rating category.

The modern history of the Calimesa area began in 1769 with Spanish missions in Alta California. Eventually, the city of Yucaipa was formed, while the smaller rural area that would become Calimesa became its own community. In 1929, the name Calimesa (from California and mesa) was chosen in a contest to name the new city, which opened its first post office in a grocery store.

Calimesa grew but remained an unincorporated town until 1990, when it was incorporated shortly after Yucaipa. Because California law prohibits incorporation or annexation of cities over county lines, part of what was known as Calimesa could not be part of the newly incorporated city. Yucaipa included that area within its borders. Despite being in different counties, Calimesa in Riverside and Yucaipa in San Bernardino, the two cities share a grid system and have many streets within both cities. West County Line Road is the boundary separating Calimesa and Yucaipa.

Calimesa's estimated population of 8,817 in 2017 is nearly a thousand more than the population of 7,879 in the 2010 census.
