Weehawken's township origins date back to 1859 when it was officially formed from portions of North Bergen and Hoboken. The name Weehawken is rooted in the native Algonquian language of the Tappan and Hackensack tribes, and it is generally interpreted to mean "maize land." During the American Revolutionary War, the area that would become Weehawken was used as a lookout point for keeping an eye out for British troops.
Today, Weehawken boasts several residential and office developments along the Hudson River, and it features a popular retail district, the Shops at Lincoln Harbor. Weehawken is also home to numerous historic sites, including the King's Bluff district, which features an array of residential architectural styles. Whether you are in town for business or for pleasure, it is important to find the right hotel that allows you to experience everything this vibrant community has to offer.
