Hoboken was originally settled by Europeans after Henry Hudson anchored his ship in 1609. Members of the Lenape tribe sold the land that would become Hoboken and part of Jersey City for some shell beads, kettles, blankets, guns, and half a barrel of beer. The waterfront town was developed in the early 19th century as a resort for Manhattan residents, and the township was originally formed in 1849. Hoboken is considered to be the birthplace of baseball, as the first officially recorded game took place here in 1846, and its waterfront location solidified the city as a port town.

Today, Hoboken serves as a popular commuter town for residents who work in Manhattan and other areas of New York City. Whatever your reasons for visiting Hoboken, it's important to find the right hotel that allows you to enjoy everything this vibrant city has to offer.

Best Time to Visit Hoboken, New Jersey

Summers in Hoboken are hot, and since it's also a popular time to visit New York, you could find yourself dealing with crowds. Holiday lights and parades make Hoboken a magical place during this time, but keep in mind that hotel prices are at their highest. If you can skip the holiday season, visit in January and February instead when rates have gone back down.

If you don't mind a little rain, visit Hoboken from March to May. Spring offers pleasant weather and numerous outdoor festivals in and around Hoboken that make any trip here worthwhile. You can also enjoy some great hotel rates during this season.
