Royersford got its name from the location of a ford (a shallow spot in a body of water, allowing you to cross through), which was beside a plot of land owned by the Royer family in the 19th century. Hence, Royersford (Royer's ford)!
While originally a center for the area's farming community, the area eventually became focused on iron and manufacturing. This is where the town truly flourished. In the early 20th century, the town had several stove factories, two glass and bottle works, hosiery and silk mills, a dye and bleaching plant, and manufacturers of bricks, gas meters, stockings, shirts, wagons, and many other popular items during that time. During the era of peak railroad transportation, Royersford thrived, as its local manufactured goods could be distributed across the United States.
Notably a small town, the population of Royersford was under 5,000 as of the 2010 census. Today, Royersford serves as a commuter town for Philadelphia and other surrounding cities due to its proximity to the 422 Expressway.
