Franklin was established in 1872 and became the county seat of Robertson County in 1879. However, there were settlers in the area long before it was officially incorporated. Also, consider the Franklin Cemetery. This site includes six markers of Civil War veterans and two veterans of the Spanish-American War. Famed country musicians Texas Ruby Owens Fox and Doie "Tex" Owens are also laid to rest here. Look for the tall white marble obelisk, which is the oldest burial site on the grounds. You'll also find a historic grave at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, the grave of General Walter Williams, who was thought to be the last surviving soldier of the Civil War.
Be sure to stop by Franklin's library, dating to 1913, and one of the few remaining Carnegie Libraries still operating as originally intended today.
