Jeff has 25 years of experience as an operating executive in digital media, commerce and technology businesses, having worked inside of and led both growth stage and large cap companies. Jeff currently provides advisory services for a number of prominent private equity funds and their portfolio companies through his advisory firm, Castle Valley Partners. Previously he was Chief Strategy Officer at Apex Clearing, a Peak6 Investments subsidiary and the leading fintech solutions provider for disruptive digital wealth companies. Jeff joined Peak6 after having completed a build-up of mobile gaming businesses at one of the world's largest electronic gaming solutions companies. He has previously led and exited multiple leading digital businesses, including PriceGrabber, a leading commerce marketplace, and United Online, a publicly traded technology company.
Prior to joining Peak6 Jeff was Group President, Digital, at Aristocrat Leisure Ltd (ASX: ALL), where he had operating responsibility for and directly managed Aristocrat's digital gaming businesses. In aggregate, Aristocrat Digital (comprised of Product Madness, Big Fish Games and Plarium) generate in excess of $1 billion in annual revenue, employ more than 1,000 employees, and collectively comprise one of the world's leading digital games businesses. Jeff led a rebalancing of the Aristocrat corporate portfolio to more heavily weight investment into higher growth areas. As part of that effort, he led the $990 million acquisition of Big Fish Games, a leading free to play casual games business, and subsequently led the development and execution of a plan to turn around the business, which had been contracting, into a business that achieved double digit growth. He also built an Aristocrat Digital management team from scratch, including recruiting an outstanding group of senior leaders as well as overseeing substantial headcount growth in the operating businesses.
Prior to Aristocrat Jeff was Interim CEO and a member of the Board of Directors of United Online (NASDAQ: UNTD), a diversified e-commerce and media business that operated brands including NetZero (ISP), Classmates/StayFriends (media) and MyPoints (commerce), where he led a strategic process that resulted in the sale of the company. At United Online Jeff led the development of a growth strategy that narrowed the strategic focus of the business, leveraged the key competencies of the core business and clarified the opportunities to deploy the +$100mm of cash on the company's balance sheet.
Prior to joining United Online Jeff was President of PriceGrabber, a leading online marketplace platform connecting more than 2,000 retailers with over 100 million online shoppers each month. At PriceGrabber, Jeff led the development of a plan to refocus the business around native ecommerce and executed the plan, including the remaking of the strategic roadmap, launching new products and the recruiting of new executive talent. Jeff subsequently led the successful sale of the company.
Jeff's previous experience includes a five-year stint at IAC as a corporate development executive, where he focused primarily on the ticketing, personals and local businesses and at Experian/LowerMyBills, where he led the sale of LowerMyBills to Experian and then led Experian's consumer online strategy function.
Jeff graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in economics from the University of California at Berkeley; received his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar; and received an M.B.A. from INSEAD, the European Institute of Business Administration.
Jeff lives in Los Angeles with his wife and three children.
