We enjoyed the historic sites and museums in and around Appomattox. It's also close enough (about 1/2 hour) to Lynchburg to access all of the historic sites, nature trails and other points of interest while making your home base in a smaller town with lower accommodation rates, safer neighborhood, easier parking, and less traffic.
