Surrounded by farmland, the historic town of Waynesboro brings visitors the best of both town and country life. Explore the historic district with its shops, restaurants, museum, and antiques, or relax with a round of golf at a local country club.
Waynesboro earned the nickname "Bird Dog Capital of the World" after millionaire Henry Berol established a national bird dog competition on his private plantation. The Georgia Field Trials draw visitors and their prized pooches from around the world for days of daring competition. Another main attraction is the major annual golf championship, the Masters Tournament.
When should you visit Waynesboro, Georgia?
Like the rest of Georgia, Waynesboro experiences a humid subtropical climate with rainfall throughout the year. Summers are long, hot, and muggy, with average daily temperatures around 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer rates tend to peak in July. Book a hotel with an outdoor pool for a refreshing dip at the end of a hot day.
If you're looking for warmer weather without the oppressive heat of summer, visit in the spring from mid-April to early June or in the fall during October. These are the driest days, with temperatures ranging from 65-80 degrees. April is the most expensive month to visit, as this is when the weather is perfect for golf tournaments.
Waynesboro winters are short and colder. November to February is considered the cool season. Average daily temperatures range from 50-60 degrees during the day, cooling off to 30-40 degrees at night with temps rarely dipping lower than freezing. A winter visit to Waynesboro would provide lower hotel rates and a nice break from colder days to the north. Annual bird dog competitions are held in January, so be sure to consider those dates when booking.
