O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis, known as Indianapolis Raceway Park until the 2006 purchase of naming rights by O'Reilly Auto Parts, is a multipurpose racing facility located in Clermont, Indiana. It is not to be confused with Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS), which is often referred to as a superspeedway, although its construction vastly predates the use of that term. Surprisingly to some, the vast majority of motorsports events held in Indianapolis are held at Raceway Park, including a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, a NASCAR Nationwide Series event, a midget car racing event, drag racing and road racing.
In 1958, led by Tom Binford, Frank Dickie, Rodger Ward and Howard Fieber, 15 Indianapolis-area businessmen and racing professionals invested $5,000 each to fund the development of a 267-acre farm tract into a recreational sporting complex that would focus on auto racing. The original intention was to create a 15-turn, 2.5-mile road course, but as an insurance measure against economic problems, the investment group decided to incorporate a quarter-mile drag strip into the long straightaway of the 2.5-mile road course design. Constructed with assistance from the NHRA, the drag strip was the first to be completed, with the facility's first event held on the strip in the fall of 1960. A year later, in 1961, a .686 mile paved oval was completed to finish off the track capabilities of the facility. The oval track was used as-is until an overall track renovation was completed in 1988 in order to increase speed on the track.
USAC Silver Crown, Sprint Car and Midget Car races are held on the 0.686-mile (1.104 km) oval, along with other events suited to a shorter track. Raceway Park also traditionally stages an extensive programs on the Saturday nights of major races at the big track nearby, with the Saturday night of Memorial Day weekend USAC Midget race called the Night before the 500. The event is held the night before the Indianapolis 500 event at IMS, serving as something of an unofficial preliminary event to the far more famous one. Similarly, the NASCAR Kroger 200 was given a "Night before the 400" status. When Formula One raced at IMS, midget, sprint, and stock car races were held at ORP in the "Night Before F1" meets, including the 2002 and 2003 USGP races that featured a twin 25-lap midget format, with a full inversion, and the winner winning $50,000 if he could win both features.
A major feature of the facility is a 4,400-foot (1,300 m) long drag strip. The one NHRA event held at Raceway Park is called "the oldest, and most prestigious race in the NHRA." The MAC Tools U.S. Nationals, held every year during the Labor Day weekend, it is the only Monday event on the NHRA schedule, a small race is held the day before the main event, with the winner claiming the five hundred thousand dollar Big Bud Shootout for the Funny Car Division, with the field consisting of the eight highest qualifying drivers in that division up to that race. The winner of the Big Bud Shootout is awarded a check for $500,000 US, while the race itself has the largest purse of any NHRA sanctioned event at over $250,000 US. O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis has held the event every year since 1961, when the race was moved from Detroit.
The 2.5-mile (4.0 km), 15-turn road course, had recently been used for Sports Car Club of America "club" road racing events. The initial Indianapolis Raceway Park road race was an SCCA event held in 1961. In 1965, rookie driver Mario Andretti won his first Indy car race on the road course, in an event which was historic in that it was the first time in modern history that American Indy cars raced on a road circuit. For the next six years, the road course hosted a round of the USAC National Championship Series (then unofficially known as Indy Cars or Champ Cars), the same series that included the Indianapolis 500, as well as the (now defunct) USAC Stock Car Division. Notably, in the 1969 movie Winning, Paul Newman's character, Frank Capua, competes in a USAC Stock Car event on the road course. Unfortunately, after a recent insurance investigation of the pit out opening for the road course, which is located along the left lane wall of the drag strip, the insurance carrier has demanded the pit out be closed off with a permanent concrete wall. This effectively means closing the road course for competition purposes as well, as there is no other area on the current track layout suitable to relocate a viable pit lane.

Lucas Oil Stadium (LOS) is a multi-purpose sports stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. The stadium celebrated its grand opening on August 24, 2008[4], in a game against the Buffalo Bills and its ribbon-cutting ceremony August 16, 2008. It replaced the RCA Dome as the home field of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts. In addition to the stadium, a new high-rise JW Marriott Indianapolis will be constructed as part of the major expansion of the Indiana Convention Center. It is scheduled to host Super Bowl XLVI in 2012.
HKS, Inc. is the architectural firm credited with the stadium’s design, with Walter P Moore working as the Structural Engineer of Record. The stadium features a retractable roof and window wall, allowing the Colts to play outdoors. The surface is FieldTurf. The elements of kinetic architecture will provide for quick conversion of the facility to accommodate a variety of events—allowing for increased use of the building and increased return on the investment.
On February 28, 2006, Indiana native Forrest Lucas announced that his company Lucas Oil had purchased the naming rights for $121 million over 20 years.
The retro look to the new stadium is a result of Indianapolis' liking towards the historic fieldhouse appearance of sports venues from decades ago. Conseco Fieldhouse, Hinkle Fieldhouse, and the Pepsi Coliseum are other examples of large sports venues (both new and old) around the city with the same type of design.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, located in Speedway, Indiana (an enclave suburb of Indianapolis) in the United States, is the home of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race.[4]
It has existed since 1909, and is the original Speedway, the first racing facility historically to incorporate the word. With a permanent seating capacity for more than 257,000 people[1] and infield seating that raises capacity to an approximate 400,000, it is the largest and highest-capacity sporting facility in the world.[5] (By comparison, the world's largest stadium seats 220,000 spectators.)
Considered relatively flat by American standards but high-banked by Europeans, the Motor Speedway is a two and a half mile, nearly rectangular oval with dimensions that have remained essentially unchanged since its inception: four 1/4 mile turns, two 5/8 mile long straightaways between the fourth and first and second and third turns, and two 1/8 mile short straightaways, termed "short chutes," between the first and second, and third and fourth turns.
A modern infield road course was constructed between 1998 and 2000, incorporating the western and southern portions of the oval (including the southwest turn) to create a 2.605-mile (4.192 km) track. In 2008, the road course was modified to replace the southwest turn with an additional infield section, for motorcycle use, resulting in a 2.621-mile (4.218 km) course. Altogether, the current grounds have expanded from an original 320 acres (1.3 km2) on which the Speedway was first built to cover over an area of over 559. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987, it currently remains the only such landmark to be affiliated with automotive racing history since its inception.
Besides the Indianapolis 500, NASCAR's Brickyard 400 also takes place there. The Speedway also hosted the United States Grand Prix for Formula One from 2000 to 2007. The inaugural race drew an estimated 225,000, which set a Formula One attendance record. In 2008, the Speedway added the Red Bull Indianapolis GP, a MotoGP event.
From August 19, 1909 through May 24, 2009, 244 automobile races took place, with 136 separate drivers winning. After winning his fifth United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis in 2006, Formula One driver Michael Schumacher holds the record for most victories between the three major events (Indianapolis 500, Brickyard 400 and the F1 USGP), though all having come on the infield road course. A.J. Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears each won four times in the Indianapolis 500 on the rectangular shaped oval track, and Jeff Gordon has also won four times on the oval in the Brickyard 400. No driver to date has won any combination of the three major events, with only one driver (Juan Pablo Montoya) having competed in all three, winning the Indy 500, finishing fourth in the US Grand Prix, and placing second in the Brickyard 400. Johnny Aitken holds the record for total wins at the track, with 15 victories (all on the oval), during the 1909, 1910 and 1916 seasons.[6]
On the grounds of the Speedway is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum, which opened in 1956, and the Brickyard Crossing Golf Resort, which originally opened as the Speedway Golf Course in 1929. The Speedway was also the venue of the opening ceremonies for the 1987 Pan American Games.

The United States Navy Reserve, until 2005 known as the United States Naval Reserve, is the Reserve Component (RC) of the United States Navy. Members of the Navy Reserve, called Reservists, are enrolled in the Selected Reserve (SELRES), the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR), the Full Time Support (FTS), or Retired Reserve program. SELRES have traditionally drilled one weekend a month and two weeks of annual training during the year, but have done much more in times of war or national crisis. Additionally, more than 52,000 Navy Reservists have been mobilized and deployed to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan, including more than 8,000 who have done a second combat tour. They have served alongside Army, Marine, Air Force and service personnel from other countries, performing such missions as countering deadly improvised explosive devices, constructing military bases, escorting ground convoys, operating hospitals, performing intelligence analysis, guarding prisoners, and doing customs inspections for units returning from deployments.
The Reserve consists of approximately 66,700 (55,600 SELRES and 11,100 FTS) officers and enlisted personnel who serve in every state and territory as well as overseas. There are an additional 50,000 members of the IRR.

The zoo hosts about 1.4 million visitors each year and plays a role in worldwide conservation and research, including accomplishing the world’s first successful artificial insemination of an African elephant. The Indianapolis Zoo is the only institution accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the American Association of Museums as a zoo, an aquarium, and as a botanical garden. The zoo is a private non-profit organization, receiving no tax support and is supported entirely by membership fees, admissions, donations, sales, grants, and an annual fundraiser.

Victory Field is the name of the current minor league baseball park that is the home of the Indianapolis Indians of the International League. It is located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
It opened in mid-summer 1996 and replaced Bush Stadium, which had also been called Victory Field for some 25 years of its existence. The new park seated 15,000 fans when it was originally opened, however a 1000 seat bleacher section was removed to make room for a picnic area. There are currently 12,496 permanent seats and room for approximately 2000 more fans on the outfield lawn, though on popular days such as the 4th of July, it is not uncommon to total over 15,000 with SRO seats.

The Benjamin Harrison Home, in the Old Northside Historic District of Indianapolis, Indiana, was the home of the Twenty-third President of the United States, Benjamin Harrison. Benjamin Harrison had the house built in the 1870s of red brick, and it had sixteen rooms. It was from the front porch of the house that Benjamin Harrison instituted his famous Front Porch Campaign in the 1888 United States Presidential Campaign, often speaking to crowds on the street. Soldiers and Sailors Monument
Recognized as one of the world's outstanding monuments, the structure has come to symbolize both the City of Indianapolis and the state of Indiana. The Limestone used for the monument is gray oolitic limestone from the Romona quarries of Owen County. It stands 284 feet, 6 inches high, only 15 feet shorter than the Statue of Liberty. It cost $598,318 in 1902. It has been estimated that building a similar structure today would cost more than five hundred million dollars.
The commission for the monument construction requested architects to submit design proposals. Of the seventy proposals turned in, two finalists were chosen. Then from the two, Bruno Schmitz of Berlin, Prussia (Germany) received the appointment.
There are a number of art works either built into the Monument, or placed throughout the grounds. Bruno Schmitz brought with him Rudolf Schwarz. Schwarz was sculptor for the statuary groups "War" and "Peace", "The Dying Soldier", "The Homefront" and the four statues at the corners of the Monument that represents the Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, and Navy.
