We visited Hexham, the old part of town. It's very quaint with cobblestones, lots of places to eat and/or have a coffee. Plus an extraordinary Abbey, well worth a visit. Go to Tesco at the bottom of the hill for free parking
We visited the Roman Military Museum and the Roman settlement at Vindolanda, both of which were very interesting.
