The Golden center is around the area of Astor House Museum and the area of Coors Brewery.

Most people associate the Gold Rush with California, but in the mid-1800s, prospectors found gold in Colorado, too. Golden, Colorado, became the stomping grounds for prospectors, smelters, miners, and other people who rushed west in search of their fortune. It developed a reputation for rapid industrialization and became one of the most pivotal development sites in the American West. More from this guide...

Although traces of its industrial roots remain, Golden has evolved into a beautiful, laid-back community that has managed to retain its small-town charm even as its population grows. More than 18,000 people call Golden home, many of whom chose this city because of its breathtaking views of the Rockies and its quaint, well-planned downtown district.

However, Golden also serves as a prime tourist destination. Whether you're interested in hiking, museums, nature, theater, or art, you'll find it here. Pack your bags, and start planning your itinerary for a vacation in Golden.

Best Time to Visit Golden, Colorado

Golden experiences four distinct seasons. Autumn and spring offer the mildest weather, which means you'll want to spend more time outdoors. You won't have to encounter the sweltering heat that plagues this town between May and August, and you won't face the unpredictable snow and ice that often characterizes the winter months. If you don't want to have any chance of snow, consider skipping a spring trip and shooting instead for late fall.

Of course, if you're hoping to hit the slopes while you're in Golden, plan a winter vacation. You'll find yourself about 45 minutes from the Loveland Ski Area and about an hour from Winter Park. You can easily book a Golden vacation rental, then take a day trip to the state's most beloved ski destinations.

For those who enjoy hiking in the mountains, early summer creates the ideal environment. It's not yet too hot for long treks, but the chill has left the air, so you won't face aching lungs halfway up the mountain trail.
