Baltimore has long been one of the major port cities of the United States. In fact, its history as a major seaport dates all the way back to the 18th century. While Inner Harbor is one of the most well-known destinations in Baltimore, its shallow water meant that it was never as heavily trafficked as the other ports in the city. Inner Harbor's commercial and passenger seaport services ended in the 1950s. Since that time, it has been renovated to be one of the most exciting tourist destinations in the city.

Whether you're interested in staying on the water, or simply want access to the most interesting sights and sounds in Baltimore, visiting Inner Harbor is a great choice. Before you visit Inner Harbor, however, it's a good idea to learn about your different hotel options in this area of Maryland.

Top Season to Visit Inner Harbor - Downtown Baltimore, MD

As one of America's major cities, visiting Baltimore can be exciting pretty much every time of the year, particularly if you're spending your trip in Inner Harbor. Despite this fact, some seasons are more beneficial for travelers than others. Learning about the top times of the year to stay in Baltimore is a good idea before you start booking your trip.

In Baltimore, like most cities on the Eastern Seaboard, the top time of the year to visit is during the summer between June and August. The summer months in Baltimore bring warm temperatures, gentle ocean breezes, and a huge influx of tourists seeking to enjoy warm weather festivals like the Maryland State Fair, the Baltimore Farmer's Market & Bazaar, and Artscape. Spring is another great season to plan a trip to Inner Harbor. If you travel in early spring, sometime in March, then the temperatures will be on the cooler side. This means there will be less tourists to contend with, and walking around the city will be a great deal more comfortable. The spring also brings some world-renowned events such as the Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the American horse racing Triple Crown.

If you want to travel to Inner Harbor during the least expensive time of the year, then winter is the best travel season for you. Although you should be ready for cold temperatures, the low cost of your trip will be well worth the bundling up when you venture outdoors. Winter events you can enjoy when staying in Inner Harbor include the Festival of Trees, the Mayor's Christmas Parade, and the American Craft Council Retail Show.
