Ramona was originally home to a nomadic people called the Diegueño, who had temporary settlements there as they traveled inland from the coastal area and back. The first Europeans in the area were Spanish soldiers in 1775. The first official European settlement in the area was in 1843 when Jose Joaquin and his son-in-law received Rancho Valle de Pamo in a land grant.
When the gold rush went into full swing, the area became a popular stagecoach stop on the route to San Diego. The town was officially founded in 1886. The first building erected three years previously still stands as a museum of the town's origins.
The town has been known throughout the years as the training camp for George Foreman and Muhammad Ali and as home to the famous tennis match between Bobby Riggs and Billy Jean King. The area is now known for its amazing wineries, historical sites, and beautiful natural landscapes, which include lakes and waterfalls.
