The city was home to the Illinois River Potawatomi Indians until August 1829, when the tribe sold the land to the U.S. government. When it first became a town in 1835, the residents voted to call it Independence Grove. Two years later, when the town set up its first post office, it was discovered that the town of Independence Grove already existed in Illinois. The town was renamed Libertyville.

Libertyville was more like a small town and I am from rural East Texas so it had a homey feeling to me. Wish I had come when it was warmer but we can't control the weather though. The city offers metrarail to travel to Chicago so that is convenient.
