If you're traveling with kids, you'll want to visit the Louisiana Children's Discovery Center. It has fun exhibits that will teach them about everything from dance to constructing buildings. Kids also adore Kliebert's Turtle and Alligator Farm. Alligators are all over this part of Louisiana, but you rarely get to see them up close unless you wander away from the city. Kliebert's gives you and your family a chance to observe alligators and other reptiles in a safe environment.
If you're traveling with adults, you'll want to set aside time to visit the Hammond Regional Arts Center. The arts center features work from working arts throughout the area. For many, it's a chance to display concepts that they've spent years developing. The arts center also hosts music and literary events. It's a good idea to check the schedule online to see what exciting events Hammond Regional Arts Center has planned during your trip.
As you walk or drive around Hammond, pay attention to the city's architecture. It has several stunning examples of Depression Gothic style that make it a unique place. This architectural style is dominated by the creative use of brightly colored bricks. It's not as ornate as the architecture you'll find in New Orleans, but it still has plenty of charm and beauty. If you visit the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University, look for Lucius McGehee Hall. It's one of the most popular examples of the style.
Seasonality of Hammond, LA
Like other parts of Louisiana, Hammond can get very hot and humid during summer. From June to August, you can expect temperatures to exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The significant amount of humidity makes it nearly impossible to stay cool outdoors, which helps explain why hotel rates are often lower during the summer months.
Spring and autumn have pleasant climates in Hammond, although temperatures can exceed 85 degrees Fahrenheit in September and May. Most of the day typically has a mild temperature, but it's a good idea to head indoors around midday. If nothing else, you should carry a bottle of water with you.
In winter, Hammond's temperatures can dip into the high 30s. The average high, however, is between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. These temperatures attract more people, which causes hotel rates to increase slightly. Overall, though, prices during winter, spring, and autumn are similar. It's summer when you will find the best deals. As long as you like the heat, you won't mind.

Luxury Hotel Options in Hammond, LA
4 Star Average Prices: $128.00
Hammond is a small college town, so you shouldn't expect to find many hotels that meet your definition of “luxury.” That doesn't mean, however, that there aren't some very nice places to stay.
Hampton Inn
401 Westin Oaks Drive
Hampton Inn is probably the nicest hotel in Hammond. It's not overly expensive, but it gets terrific reviews from guests. Many praise the hotel for its clean rooms, delicious breakfast, and friendly service.
When it comes to amenities, you'll find an outdoor pool, fitness facilities, free Wi-Fi, and a spa tub. The 81-room, three-story hotel is popular among business travelers, so it's not surprising to see that it has a business center that's fully equipped with computers, printers, and fax machines. A lounge area serves drinks and other light refreshments, but it doesn't act as a full restaurant. You'll get a good, hot breakfast, but you'll need to find other meals elsewhere.
Hampton Inn's location is one of its best features. It's just 2.5 miles from the Hammond Regional Arts Center. Louisiana Technical College and the Hammond Amtrak Station are also less than 5 miles from the hotel.
Courtyard
1605 South Magnolia Street
Courtyard gets rave reviews from most of its guests. Like Hampton Inn, it has a convenient location that gives people easy access to some of the town's most popular destinations, including the arts center and Amtrak station.
When it comes to amenities, you may appreciate Courtyard's outdoor pool, free Wi-Fi, coffee shop, and game room. The five-story hotel even has a tennis court, 24-hour business center, and free newspapers in the lobby. Although there isn't a fitness center in the hotel, guests get free access to a nearby gym.
Courtyard is an especially good place for business travels who want to hold meetings. A 130-meter conference space, lounge area, and restaurant provide plenty of places to discuss business opportunities. Breakfast is available, but costs about $12.95 per person. There's also an on-site market with drinks and snacks.
It's hard to say whether Hampton Inn or Courtyard come closer to the luxury experience. If you're looking for a nice hotel in Hammond, either of them should meet your needs without breaking your budget.
