"Best City To Live In"
Author: , a Hotel Planner from , reviewed on 29-Dec-2014
Score of City:
5.0 / 5

Fort Collins is a college town with flair and could easily be one of Colorado's best cities to live, visit and play. The art and the beer are two of the best reasons. The New Belgium Brewery was founded after Jeff Lebesch returned from a trip to Belgium were he discovered the brewing style of Belgium beer. The Museum of Contemporary Art is located in an old post office building dating back to 1911 and we have the smallest bar in Colorado called the Town Pump which was opened in 1936.

'What strikes me the most about Fort Collins is its ability to stay young. It's either the university or the town itself “ but it's incredibly young around here.

Famous artists and photographer Mark Miller is a proud Fort Collins resident and is all praise for his hometown that is often hailed as the best small town in America “ to the west of Mississippi, at any rate!

At its very core, Fort Collins is just another university town in America, where a number of students and academic professionals from various parts of the country, as well as the world, arrive in order to fulfil their academic dreams and further their careers. But besides that, the best and the tallest claim to fame that Fort Collins can boast of having is its breath-taking natural scenery and its incredibly beautiful location in the high Rockies.

From Denver, Colorado, Fort Collins is just about an hour's drive away. So, getting into the city shouldn't really be a problem. Even though much of its modern outlook can be attributed to new age culture, the central theme of the old town of Fort Collins is that of a typical western town that gets struck by snow in every winter, without exceptions. From dusty boardwalks to town inns, the western roots of the town are easily recognisable. Further military interventions during the civil war meant that Fort Collins has ended up being a curious mix of old and new times. That, in our view, is the best facet of tourism in Fort Collins.

There's no reason why you shouldn't visit Fort Collins if you are a fan of majestically intimidating natural beauty and equally impressive history of the town itself. The only way you can get to experience all of this first hand is by actually visiting it. To help you get on with your tour planning, we are presenting a nifty fact-check of Fort Collins hotels suitable for your stay here.

Affordable Stay in Fort Collins

Being a smallish city, Fort Collins doesn't have too many lodging options that tourists can hope to explore and choose from. Most of the hotels in Fort Collins are locally operated, and hence, tend to stay away from the glare of the internet.

But among whatever options that are available, cheap hotels here in Fort Collins that impress the most are Comfort Suites and Days Inn Fort Collins. Both of these are diametrically opposite options, though. While Comfort Suites tries its best to evoke the charms of luxury through small budget, Days Inn makes clear its intentions of providing a simple but comfortable accommodation to travelers, at low prices that you will find very, very difficult to turn down!

Extravagant and Lavish: Luxury Hotels in Fort Collins

The best way to enhance the overall appeal of a holiday spend in a city like Fort Collins is to make sure that you complement the natural goodness of the location with equally impressive luxurious stay.

To help you achieve that, various luxury hotels in Fort Collins will try their utmost best. While conceding the fact that there is not a wide variety to choose from in this segment, the options that are available can be treated fair and square.

Hilton Fort Collins, for example. There is little need to tell more about the kind of stature that Hilton commands in the business world of luxury hospitality. So, choosing Hilton over other lavish Fort Collins hotels is not going to be a difficult decision to make for tourists. Fares usually start at about $100 during off-season, and $250 during peak season of tourism!

Must See Places in and Around Fort Collins

Fort Collins, being a historic town that has been around for over 150 years, features many interesting places and sites to see in and around its original location of the settlement.

The very first place you should start your Fort Collins sightseeing journey at is the Old Town of Fort Collins. It is the heart of the city, and the place where much of the history of Fort Collins is concentrated. A number of historic buildings and alleyways are today accompanied by local markets, malls and swanky restaurants.

If you are a quintessential American sports fan, you must head down to Budweiser Events Center and Sports Arena, right after visiting the Old Town. This large playing field is home to various local sports teams, including Colorado Eagles.

The campus of Colorado State University (CSU) is definitely worth checking out, as well “ simply because of its vast expanses that overlook distant, snow-capped mountain peaks. It's no wonder then that a university located in such a beautiful place is deemed to be one of the best in the country!

Tourists who take active interest in imbibing themselves can also visit various breweries that are present around Fort Collins. The most notable among them is Budweiser brewery, producing millions of gallons of beer and other alcoholic drinks per year!

What Tourists Need to Know About Sightseeing in Fort Collins

The only thing tourists who are planning on visiting Fort Collins need to know is that even though Fort Collins may offer enticing natural hiking trails and various mountaineering activities, the only way to go after those is if you are a professional.

It's always a good idea to take the accompaniment of a local guide or an expert of the local landscape along with you, if you are travelling out of town.

Other than this solitary point, your stay in Fort Collins will be smooth and will proceed as planned.

Weather in Fort Collins

Being situated in the Rockies, Fort Collins has a colder and chillier climate than most parts of the Wild West. Average temperature here do not rise much above 50 degree Fahrenheit, while it can go much below the freezing point during winters.

Winters also bring with them inevitable snow storms and traffic problems. So, it's the best idea to visit Fort Collins during summer months “ from May to July “ as long as you are ready to tackle hiked room tariffs, even by cheap hotels!

"Great convenient location"
Score 5.0 / 5

There was plenty of things to do as a family, there was a cute little strip mall by Target that had great shops!! Everything was very close together and we didn't have to drive far for food and entertainment. TCBY has delicious frozen yogurt, we had Chili's and they over charged my card but it was a good meal.
