The area now known as Lynbrook was originally called Rechquaakie and later took on the names Parson's Corner and Bloomfield. It became Pearsall's Corner after Mr. Pearsall's General Store became a famed stagecoach stop for people traveling from New York City to Long Island. The area has been known as Lynbrook since 1894, a name that came from transposing the syllables of Brooklyn in a tribute to the original home of many residents at the turn of the century. The village was incorporated in 1911. Lynbrook's top economic drivers are currently retail trade and manufacturing.
Lynbrook has three homes on the National Register of Historic Places as well as Rockville Cemetery. The city is known for being the setting for the popular TV sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond," although the show was filmed on a Warner Bros. set.
