The Oswego center point is about 4 miles south of Aurora University and 4 miles southwest of Rush Copley Medical Center.
Oswego has four distinct seasons, with early summer and early fall being the best months to visit. July is typically the hottest and most humid month of the year, but this is when you can canoe or kayak the Fox River, engage in fun family events, and enjoy the long summer evenings. It's wonderful to dine in one of the many great downtown restaurants and then take the family to see an outdoor movie shown at one of the local parks. Summer is peak season, so room rates are high and book up quickly. Make your hotel reservations well in advance to get the best deals.
Spring is often rainy, but it's also a magical time to be in Oswego. The Oswegoland Park District has over 40 miles of maintained trails that you can hike or mountain bike along. The weather is cooler than summer with fewer visitors, and you can watch for migrating birds along the wetlands. During the months of April and May the wildflowers begin to bloom, creating a colorful spectacle. There are fewer visitors during the spring months, so you can find a good room rate with plenty of availability.
Fall is beautiful in Oswego, especially mid-September through early November. The summer crowds have gone home, and the leaves on the trees are turning beautiful colors. This is a wonderful time to kayak the waterways, fish, and to enjoy the plentiful produce grown locally and sold at the seasonal farmers markets. While not peak season, fall is often busy. Room rates are still reasonable and there is availability; just make sure to book in advance.
Except for the holidays, winter months are the slow season for Oswego. The weather is cold, rainy, and snowy, and not many tourists visit this time of year. However, if you enjoy winter activities, such as sledding, snow-shoeing, or skiing, there is plenty to keep you entertained. Rooms are reasonable and you shouldn't have any trouble finding availability, except over the holidays.
It's always nice to receive a discount when traveling, and the Americinn by Wyndham Oswego offers a nice discount to AAA and AARP members as well as for seniors and government and military personnel. The free hot breakfast is a great way to start your day, as is working out in the fitness center.
At the end of the day, take a dip in the large heated indoor pool before relaxing on your comfortable bedding and enjoying cable programs on the flat-screen HDTV. Take advantage of the mini fridge, microwave, and in-room coffee maker, and stay connected with free Wi Fi. The hotel is pet-friendly, so bring your furry friends along. This non-smoking hotel is happy to make arrangements if you want to host a special event or business meeting.
Why not stay in a hotel that adds a bit more value to your visit? The Homewood Suites by Hilton Aurora Naperville is a lovely mid-range hotel with free Wi-Fi and daily hot breakfast to get your day started. In the evening, get to know your neighbors over a glass of wine at the free evening social.
The studio rooms offer a kitchenette with a refrigerator and a microwave, while select suites have stovetops, sinks, cutlery, pots and pans, and everything you need to prepare your own food. The rooms are well-appointed with premium bedding, cable programming, and flat-screen TVs. If you're traveling as a group or wish to host an on-site event, the staff at Homewood Suites can arrange everything for you.
During the summer, take the family to Raging Waves Water Park, the largest water park in all of Illinois. Located on 58 acres, the park has multiple water slides both for little ones and for the older, thrill-seeking kids. There is a lazy river as well as a wave pool that the entire family can enjoy.
If you're a golfer, you'll enjoy golfing at Oswego Country Club or the Fox Bend Golf Course. Or, if you want to connect with nature, rent a kayak and enjoy the beauty, wildlife, and birding opportunities along the gorgeous Fox River. Take an afternoon to visit the Fox Valley Winery featuring small lot, award-winning wines or stop by the Oswego Brewing Company to sample their hand-crafted beers.
During the winter months, seven parks in the Oswego area offer sledding opportunities, and several parks and golf courses have trails to explore on cross-country skis or snowshoes. There are plenty of excellent restaurants and boutique shops to explore in the refurbished downtown area, so take time to enjoy the charming village.
