Clarks Summit is named after William Clark, a former Revolutionary War soldier who was the area's first settler. Congress issued him 800 acres of land for his military service, but his deed was deemed invalid after land disputes between Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Committed to his new home, Clark paid for the land himself. In 1799 he moved with his three sons into a log cabin, situated on the land where the Clarks Green Cemetery now sits.
The area's development was slow. Clarks Summit didn't get its first school until 1893 and wasn't incorporated until 1911. Today, approximately 5,000 people call Clarks Summit home. Despite its small stature, Clarks Summit is a borough big on charm.
When would be the best time to visit the city of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvaniaania?nia
Fall and summer are the best times for visiting Clarks Summit.
Summer turns on the borough's best weather, with mild daily highs in the high 70s. Summer nights can get cool, with temperatures regularly dipping to the low 50s, so bring a jacket for evenings out. While the borough doesn't get as busy as larger vacation hotspots during summer, the limited accommodation options fill quickly and prices rise in response to the demand.
Fall temperatures are a little cooler, but the weather is still accommodating. Rain is rare and daily highs in the mid-50s are comfortable outdoors. Pack some layers because you'll find Clarks Summit's buildings are toasty. Night temperatures typically fall into the high 30s, so you'll also need a winter coat.
As you can imagine, winters in Clarks Summit can be icy. Days in January, the season's coldest month, regularly sit in the mid-20s but can plunge below freezing during cold snaps. Spring is usually cooler than fall and can be wet, especially late in the season. These seasons are least popular with tourists though, so bargains are available for travelers willing to brave the elements.
