Graph of Santa Fe, NM Hotel Prices for Next 20 Days

Rates shown are nightly rates before taxes and do not necessarily reflect all Santa Fe, NM discounts available. The chart reflects the cheapest Santa Fe hotel for each day and each star rating category.

Santa Fe was originally occupied by indigenous people known as the Tanoan people. Historians have learned that the Tanoan people began occupying what is now downtown Santa Fe around 900 A.D.

Since then, the area has been a Spanish colony, a city in Mexico, and then part of Texas. It wasn't until 1912 that New Mexico became a state and Santa Fe was named its capital.

When to Visit Santa Fe, NM

Santa Fe has very hot summers and mildly cold winters. The best time to visit the city depends largely on what you want to do and what sort of weather you prefer.

Between June and August, temperatures reach highs of almost 90 degrees. These months can be quite humid because the city receives the most rain during this season. It's not the most popular time to visit, though, which means you will likely be able to get a few great hotel deals. If the heat doesn't bother you, summer could be a great time to visit Santa Fe. Just don't forget to pack your hat and sunscreen.

The most popular time to visit Santa Fe is between September and November. This season brings festivals, like Santa Fe Fiesta and the Santa Fe Wine and Cheese Festival, which draw a lot of tourists to the city. During this time, you can enjoy sunny days with temperatures around 65 degrees. The temperature drops in the evening and can get as cold as 40 degrees. If you plan to visit the city during these months, prepare for higher hotel prices and be sure to book well in advance.

If you enjoy skiing, winter is a great time to visit Santa Fe. It's only a short drive to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, an excellent place to ski between December and February. While this isn't as popular a time of year as the fall, it is still quite busy with tourists. Prices will remain relatively high, and you'll have to allow yourself plenty of time to book if you'd like to get a good deal.

If you want to visit the city when there are fewer tourists and score yourself some off-season prices, visit Santa Fe between March and May. The weather is beginning to improve, but you'll still experience cool evenings, so pack accordingly.

Travel overview of Santa Fe, NM

Santa Fe has long been one of the United States' favorite destinations among upscale travelers, mainly because of its chic flair. Its irresistible appeal is based on firm-grounds: Santa Fe is one of the nation's earliest and most beautiful cities. Santa Fe has been built by the Hispanic missionaries long before Pilgrims stepped foot. Summer sunsets make Santa Fe even more beautiful, with pinks and vermilions seen all over the sky, far above the Hemez Mountains. The capital of New Mexico sits high at the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, blessed with the beauty of numerous baroque churches and adobe houses. Newer galleries have been erected, attracting more and more art-lovers worldwide. About 1.5 million tourists descend annually from the rest of North America to grapple what remains of the classic beauty. Though much has been replaced by the urban sprawl across town, Santa Fe still has a lot to like. On most evenings of summer, Santa Fe plays host to numerous opera, some of which are held outdoors.

Santa Fe is the most outstanding city we've seen in ages—great museums on the hill, beautiful Pueblo architecture almost everywhere, great central plaza, and shade trees in the heart of town to cool down summer afternoons!

We love the Farm & Art Market on Saturday mornings. Get there earlier than 8 to find a decent parking spot. The artists along the railway outside of the Farm & Art Market. Then the Indoor Market: The Mercado in the bldg on the other side of the Farm & Art Bldg. The restaurant - Ranch House off Cerrillos Rd as well as Tomasitas and Gabriels. All around the Plaza and the Loretto Chapel Church and St Francis Church, Chimayo Church. A must you need to see and do the trails is: Bandalier National Monument. Go up and down Cerrillos there are several places to shop. There are so many others, but we love Santa Fe.

We enjoyed a free concert at a local farm. We were impressed with the historic chapels. The green chili and local food was great, though noticeably expensive. There is a great local music and art community. Loved the visits to local Las Alamos, with breathtaking canyons and rock formations! Loved the quaint coal mining town of Madrid, and the saloon that appeared in Longmire. Our local musical friends were great tour guides!
