Florence boasts a unique Mediterranean climate. But don't expect the scorching heat typical of Mediterranean spots; here, the ocean keeps things refreshingly cool. In spring, the annual Rhododendron Festival, held in May, celebrates the blooming of the vibrant rhododendrons with parades, arts and crafts, and a classic car show, drawing both locals and visitors to this colorful spectacle. Summer offers the perfect conditions for exploring the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, where activities like sandboarding, dune buggy rides, and hiking are popular. The Florence Event Center hosts the Florence Festival of Books, an event that invites book lovers to meet authors and explore a variety of literary works. Fall brings a serene beauty to the coast and the annual Oktoberfest, where the community comes together to enjoy traditional Bavarian food, local craft beers, and lively music. Winter, while quieter, offers its own charm with storm-watching along the rugged coastline and A Taste of Art and Wine festival, where attendees can sample local wines and admire art from regional artists. No matter the season, there's always something special to experience in Florence.
