Many visitors to Tyler come to see the roses. If that's your draw to the city, the best time to visit is in October. In October you can attend the Texas Rose Festival. Realize, however, that the prices of hotel accommodations increase during this time of year and so will the city's population as thousands flock to Tyler for the festival. If you want to avoid the crowds, you can enjoy the blooming roses throughout the year, but they're the best in spring and fall when the roses bloom. The Tyler Rose Garden has 14 acres of roses and is open free to visitors.
Other than enjoying the roses, the weather in Tyler is nice throughout the year. Winter highs sit around 58 to 65 degrees while lows are around 38, so it isn't too terribly cold in the winter. Spring and fall temperatures are perfect for exploring the outdoors with highs averaging 70 to 85 degrees from March to May and September to October. Summers are hot reaching 90 degrees on average. The number of visitors increases as well because of the school breaks, so the area can get crowded. This makes summer less than ideal for visiting the area.

The annual Texas Rose Festival takes place mid-October. Events vary year to year, so if you're interested in attending the festival, check this year's schedule to find out what's happening. The rose festival itself lasts for four days from a Thursday to Sunday. Each day, visitors can attend the Palette of Roses Art Show or see the roses themselves. There are also daily events such as the luncheon on Friday midday, the coronation of the rose queen on Friday afternoon and evening, parade on Saturday morning, and tea on Saturday afternoon. In addition to the festival, there are events in Tyler throughout October. Oktoberfest is a tradition full of German food, cultural events, and dancing. Another free event is the Rose Season open house where you'll feel like you've gone back in time with carriage rides, entertainment, and refreshments. The City of Tyler seems ok., I only stayed overnight.
We stayed during ice storm since our power was off 5 days. Not home, but comfortable enough.

I like having a variety of stores and restaurants here in Tyler. I also like to go to the Tyler Civic Theater and the Tyler Rose Garden.
Dakota's steakhouse was great. Didn't do anything else as we were there for a 90th birthday party.

Tyler is pretty. The lakes were lovely and there are a variety of places to eat. I want to visit again.

The East Texas region is filled with peaceful, easy-going cities and towns, each with its own charm. When it comes to Tyler, I absolutely love the town! If I had landed a full-time job with my bachelor's degree back then, I'd probably still be living there—24 years later. Tyler and Longview remind me of smaller versions of Dallas and Fort Worth. Tyler continues to grow and expand, while Longview still holds on to that classic, vintage small-town feel. Tyler is definitely worth a visit—especially if you're craving some good East Texas cookin'. Beyond those two, towns like Lufkin, Jacksonville, Palestine, Marshall, Athens, Texarkana, and Nacogdoches are also great places to explore, each offering a unique slice of East Texas hospitality and culture.

We had a very long drive getting there and did enjoy the Texas Roadhouse and were surprised at the excellent treatment while there especially the waitress named Maci. She was 'over and above' in her job. While passing through we did notice the cleanliness of the roads we traveled. Tyler was a good experience overall.
