Comstock Park is an unincorporated community located in the ever-growing greater Grand Rapids metropolitan area. The area spans both Alpine and Plainfield townships and is in the heart of an area that is continuing to grow and develop into a major hub of commerce and culture. It is well-known for the Grand River which flows through the city.
The area started in 1838 as a settlement called North's Mill, named after its founder Daniel North. In 1848, the area had its first name change to Mill Creek, and it became known as a major hub of transportation. A railroad that connects Grand Rapids, Chicago, and western Indiana helped the community grow exponentially. The area received its final and current name Comstock Park in 1906 after a U.S. Congressional representative from the district, Charles C. Comstock. Ironically, the representative never lived in Comstock Park, but instead had his residence across the river.
The area continued to grow from its humble beginnings into a bustling area known for its amazing and challenging golf courses and as the home of the West Michigan Whitecaps.
