Easily accessible via Interstate 285 and the new East-West Connector, Mableton is surging in popularity, thanks to its affordability and attractive location. Mableton is located in Cobb County, Georgia, and is close to Vinings, Buckhead, and downtown Atlanta.
Despite its suburban feel, Mableton offers attractions of its own, including the Mable House. This historic property has become a hub for town life, and its grounds also house the Mable House Arts Center and the Mable House Barnes Amphitheater. The community gathers here throughout the year for concerts, exhibitions, meetings, performances, festivals, tours, and more.
Mableton and the surrounding areas are also home to many parks, hiking trails, and historical sites. For instance:
-Hikers and bikers love following the Silver Comet Trail, which is named after the Silver Comet train that followed an old railroad route through Mableton for several decades. The trail's full length runs from Smyrna to the Chief Ladiga Trail across the state line in Alabama.
-Further afield in Douglas County, Sweetwater Creek State Park offers hikers beautiful views of the creek, a historic mill, and a small museum. The park lies just 15 miles west of Atlanta, not far from Interstate 20.
-Heritage Park is a beautiful site for a picnic in the pavilion, a walk along the wooden-plank trail, and a visit to a historic cemetery and mill building. At the end of the trail, you will find not only the historic Concord Covered Bridge but also Ruff's Mill, which is the site of the 1864 Civil War skirmish, the Battle of Ruff's Mill.
-Visit Nickajack Park or Wallace Park if you want to play ball. Whether you prefer softball, baseball, football, tennis, or batting practice, these parks have dedicated fields, courts, and facilities for each activity.
-If a stunning lake view in a quiet woodland setting is more your style, you can check out Thompson Park, which also houses the Thompson Community Center.
In nearby Austell, you can do some antique shopping — browsing both small trinkets like jewelry and large items like furniture — at De'Ja-Vous Antiques & Collectibles. If you spy something you like, the owners may be willing to haggle with you on the price.
Golfers should check out Austell's Dogwood Golf Club. The course is private on weekends but open to the public on weekdays and selected times on weekends. The club includes a practice green, driving range, and a pro shop where you can purchase your golf equipment.
Check out the Sparkles Family Fun Center in Smyrna if you're looking for an entertaining indoor activity on afternoons when the weather is too hot, cold, or rainy. You can relive your childhood, enjoy an old-school date, or show your kids how much fun rollerskating can be.
Whether you are traveling for a business conference, trade show, or just for pleasure, Mableton is the quiet and convenient suburban town you've been seeking, with easy access to downtown Atlanta, Georgia.
