The Roswell center point is approximately the area of Bulloch Hall and 4 miles west of Scottish Rite Children's Medical Center.

The city of Roswell has an active history. Settler Roswell King was passing through the area in 1830 when he realized the land would be good for cotton mills and plantations. Several years later, he returned with help to build what became the largest mill in North Georgia, Roswell Mill. His help consisted of skilled carpenter slaves and African slaves from his coastal plantation. They helped shaped the culture and religious traditions of the Roswell area from their Geechee culture. Other settlers started to follow suit and bring their own slaves to form plantations to work on. More from this guide...

The residents of the area began to desire a local government and sent in a city charter to be incorporated to the Georgia General Assembly. In February 1854, the charter was finally approved. During the Civil War, over 400 people were employed by the cotton mills. The mill continued to increase its production each year, which brought in dozens of new families looking to settle down. Many of these new settlers were of Irish and Scottish descent. The city was captured by the Union forces and the mill was burned down. Many families fled and slaves were shipped away.

When the war was over, the mill was rebuilt, and production continued. However, many of the workers had already moved to other towns for fresh opportunities. There was an agriculture depression that greatly affected the South for years after the war. In the early 1930s, the Great Depression occurred, and a county to the north of Roswell merged with Roswell to form Fulton County. The city slowly grew again after the Great Depression ended, and Roswell is currently one of the largest cities in Georgia. During the past 15 years alone, the population has really started to soar.
