Originally settled in the 1820s and developed as a railroad community in the early 1890s, Tucker has a long and storied history. The 1821 Georgia Land Lottery encouraged settlement in the area, and the community that would become known as Tucker was established as a militia district. During the Civil War, union soldiers marched into town and camped at a local mill, burning most of the other buildings and dismantling the community railroad. After World War II, Tucker became focused on industrial, residential, and retail pursuits, encouraging new residents to move to the area.

Today, due to Tucker's close proximity to Atlanta, it's the perfect place to live and commute. Residents can be in downtown Atlanta in less than 30 minutes, and Tucker visitors can enjoy all the perks of being close to Atlanta without paying hiked hotel rates that are more common in the center of the metro area. Whatever your reasons for visiting Tucker and the Atlanta area, it's important to do your research so you can find the right hotel that allows you to enjoy everything this popular region has to offer.

Best Time to Visit Tucker, GA

Peak tourist season in Metro Atlanta is in the summer from late May through August. Georgia summers are hot and humid, so the weather can feel stifling. This does little to keep visitors away, however, as most area hotels fill up quickly. To avoid skyrocketing rates, book your room early. If you do end up visiting during the summer, you'll be rewarded with numerous local events, including the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival and Atlanta International Fashion Week.

When the heat tapers off around September, the crowds dissipate and Atlanta becomes a much more pleasant place for sightseeing. If you're staying in Tucker during the fall, you'll enjoy nice temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to the low-80s. Autumn events include Taste of Atlanta, Music Midtown, and Sweet Auburn Music Fest.

To save the most amount of cash, try visiting Tucker in the winter. Atlanta winters can be rough with ice storms and the occasional snowstorm, but hotel rates are at their lowest throughout the metro area. Although locals flock to indoor attractions for respite from the cold, you won't be competing with massive amounts of tourists, which can be quite pleasant. Just be sure to bring a few extra layers and plan on bad weather.

One of the best seasons to visit Metro Atlanta is in the spring. Like fall, spring offers fewer crowds and more pleasant temperatures. Keep in mind, though, that springtime thunderstorms are common, so pack an umbrella and some rain gear. Special events during this season include the Atlanta Dogwood Festival, Atlanta Film Festival, and Atlanta Jazz Festival's 31 Days of Jazz.
