Universal Studios is a theme park and film studio located near Los Angeles, California. Approximately 30% of the park is within the Los Angeles city limits, while the other portion is within an unincorporated county island called Universal City. It was created to provide tours of the studio where many popular films were made and opened in 1912. In 1965, the first rides were introduced within the theme park as a way to entertain young children who came to Universal Studios.
