For a small city, Grand Rapids has a lot of activities for kids and adults. The Meijer Gardens were fabulous to explore, there are plenty of places to find food and libations, and convenience stores all around for travelers if they forget something. All the attractions are fairly close together, and Lake Michigan is only 40 minutes away. I highly recommend Grand Rapids for a family vacation spot!
