The Conyers center is about 1 mile southwest of Rockdale Hospital and 4 miles east of Stonecrest Mall.

The city of Conyers is located east of Atlanta in Georgia. The area was originally inhabited for hundreds of years by Native Americans, who had a border called the "Great Indian Road." This divided the Muscogee natives from the Cherokee natives, and was used by Caucasian settlers after the American Revolution. The area became open for settlement from 1816 to 1821, drawing in more potential residents. A blacksmith became the first official person to settle in the town, where the Rockdale County Courthouse is now located on Main Street. More from this guide...

Tensions rose when a railroad had plans to cross Georgia and go into Conyers. The blacksmith refused to sell his land, but eventually was persuaded to after getting a good settlement from the Georgia Railroad. The tracks were fully running by 1845, and almost 400 new people moved to the area as a result over the following 10 years. The city has almost been destroyed before several times, but managed to survive each incident. As more people passed through the town, it became quite a party town, with five brothels and twelve saloons. The other side of town was much more respectable, with a college, hotel, and over 40 stores.

Many exciting events have occurred in the city over the years. In the 1970s, the crew of the "Dukes of Hazard" television show were in town to film a handful of episodes around the area. Other film and television crews have since been to the area, including the movie "In the Heat of the Night" and the TV show "The Originals." Conyers also had a part in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, as the city hosted the mountain biking and equestrian events. A brand new park was even built just for the occasion, named the Georgia International Horse Park.

When to Visit Conyers, GA

The best time to visit Conyers is during the spring from March to May. Every St. Patrick's Day, the World's Fastest Growing St. Patrick's Day Parade takes place in Olde Town Conyers. A leprechaun look-alike contest takes place for adults, and a newly added pet contest occurs at the end of the parade. Irish-themed drinks are offered for free. The Cherry Blossom Festival is also a huge event that takes place at the beginning of every April at the Georgia International Horse Park. In addition to admiring the beautiful cherry blossoms, there's food, games, international music, and dances.

Fall is also an ideal time to visit, with peak times being from late September to early November. The weather starts to cool off, and the leaves begin to turn stunning shades of red, yellow, and orange. Head to the pumpkin patch to find the perfect pumpkin, or get lost in a corn maze with friends. The Annual Old Town Fall Festival takes place in late October, which is full of children's activities, costume contests, and arts and crafts vendors. Fall-themed food and drinks like hot apple cider are also available for purchase. Admission to the event is free.
