The first European settlers arrived in the Bedford area during the 1840s. A settlement developed in the 1870s, complete with a gristmill and general store to serve area farmers. The community agreed to name the town Bedford after a county in Tennessee, from which many of the residents had come. During the 1880s and 1890s, Bedford was the most populated community in the county aside from Fort Worth.
Today, Bedford is bisected by Highway 121 and is undergoing expansion. Locals are warm and friendly, and the community provides an excellent jumping-off point for exploring the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Whatever your reason for booking a room in Bedford, it's important to find the right hotel that allows you to enjoy everything DFW has to offer.
Best Time to Visit Bedford, TX
The best time to visit Bedford and the DFW Metroplex is from September through October when the temperatures aren't as hot as in the summer. Tourist traffic tends to die down by September, and the State Fair of Texas kicks into full swing, offering a great opportunity to experience great food, entertainment, and cowboy culture. With tourist season over, most area hotels drop their prices, but do your research and compare options if you're visiting during the fair.
Winters in Texas are mild, although the Metroplex does receive minimal snowfall each year. Daytime averages hover in the 50s and 60s, making it just cool enough for a few layers, but you'll rarely need to bundle up in heavier winter gear. If you don't mind visiting Bedford during the winter, you can save a great deal on area hotels and enjoy fewer crowds at popular DFW attractions.
Spring ushers in warmer weather in Bedford, with highs hitting the high 70s and 80s. You can also expect a lot of rain, so bring your umbrella if you plan on a springtime getaway. While most cities tend to experience reduced hotel rates during the spring season, the DFW area is an exception. With Dallas Cowboy fans descending on the Metroplex for the games, you can expect higher hotel rates and fewer vacancies, so plan your trip carefully. If you do visit during the spring, try to visit a nearby event like the Main Street Fort Worth Arts Festival or Dallas Blooms.
The DFW area experiences hot summers with high levels of humidity. Despite many visitors complaining about the weather, summer is still the most popular time to visit. Room rates climb and attractions fill up with both tourists and local families looking to escape the heat. Key summer events include the Chisholm Trail Roundup, Juneteenth, and Taste of Dallas, any of which can make a trip here during the summer well worth it.
